On this Easter Sunday, the Texas State Nurse Honor Guard extends our hearts to each of you: our members, our colleagues, and especially the families walking through the quiet weight of loss today.

Easter is a season of hope, renewal, and the promise that love endures beyond this life. Yet we know that for many, this day may also carry the ache of an empty chair, a familiar voice now stilled, or traditions forever changed.

To those grieving: you are not alone. Your loved one’s life mattered deeply, and their legacy continues in every life they touched. We honor them with you. We remember them with you. And we stand beside you, holding space for both your sorrow and your strength.

To our Nurse Honor Guard members: thank you for the compassion you give so selflessly, ensuring that every nurse is remembered with dignity and respect. Your service brings light into some of life’s darkest moments.

May this Easter bring gentle comfort, quiet peace, and the reassurance that even in loss, love remains, and hope rises.

The Texas State Nurse Honor Guard is preparing for our 2026 Inaugural Conference — bringing together Honor Guard members from across Texas to strengthen this powerful tradition and expand our ability to serve families and communities.

Honoring Nurses. Supporting Each Other. Expanding Our Reach. 🕯️

My name is Brandi Barringer, and I am the Texas State Coordinator for the National Nurses Honor Guard Coalition and founder of the Texas State Nurse Honor Guard.

Since 2023, the Texas State Nurse Honor Guard has existed to ensure that nurses who have dedicated their lives to caring for others receive a dignified tribute at the end of their journey. Our mission is to honor nurses through ceremonial tributes, support the profession, and connect nurses who want to carry on this meaningful tradition.

Across Texas, many Nurse Honor Guard groups are already serving their communities. The colored areas on the map represent regions where a local Nurse Honor Guard group is active and able to provide tributes.

However, the areas not colored currently do not have a Nurse Honor Guard group. These communities represent an important opportunity for nurses to step forward and begin new groups so that no nurse goes without recognition for their service.

The Texas State Nurse Honor Guard serves as an organizing and coordinating body, not a governing body. All Nurse Honor Guard groups in Texas are autonomous and locally operated. Our role is to:

• Coordinate tributes across the state when assistance is needed
• Help nurses start new Nurse Honor Guard groups in areas without coverage
• Connect Texas nurses with an existing local group to join
• Promote awareness of the Nurse Honor Guard mission statewide

By identifying your area, we can quickly direct you to the appropriate group or help organize coverage where it is needed.

Tomorrow, someone will be missing at the gathering.
An empty seat will sit quietly at the table, holding a whole lifetime of love.

Tomorrow, a door won’t open for someone we’re still wishing would walk through it.
And someone will try their best to remake a recipe that will never taste the same without the hands that once helped make it.

Tomorrow, stories will rise like warm steam from holidays long gone,
because some of the people who made those memories aren’t here to make new ones.

Tomorrow, there will be laughs tangled with tears,
served up right beside the mashed potatoes and gravy.

There will be soft whispers of
“I wish they were here,”
and quiet moments where someone swallows a hurt that has no words.

Tomorrow, a phone will stay silent,
because the person we want to call can’t answer anymore.

Hearts will sit around tables , full plates, but heavy chairs,
with people who are hurting, remembering, missing.

There will be extra “I love you’s.”
Extra pictures taken.
And maybe a name said out loud that hasn’t been spoken in years,
because love never really leaves a room, it lingers.

Tomorrow, so many will balance grief with gratitude.
Holding thankfulness in one hand and heartbreak in the other.
And somewhere deep down, we all know…
there may be even more empty seats next year.

So tomorrow, hold your people close.
Say the things.
Take the picture.
Feel it all.
Because love is the reason we ache,
and love is the reason we keep going. 🤍🦃
