Good morning, Kingsdale Fire District residents. The Smyrna Volunteer Fire Department will be conducting flow tests on fire hydrants this week, starting this morning. This process is essential to verify that each hydrant is functioning properly, address any issues, and obtain flow rates. While every precaution is being taken to prevent disruptions to the water supply, you may notice temporary discoloration in your home's water. If this occurs, please open a faucet, such as a bathtub faucet, and run the water until it clears.

Attention citizens in the Smyrna Church Road area! There is a hole in the road near 1605 Smyrna Church Road. The dirt under the road is washing out causing the road to collapse. DOT has been notified but have no answer at this time when it will be repaired. Out of concern one of the locals have put some caution tape to warn motorists. There are some other potholes towards Wiregrass road that can possibly cause some tire damage. Travel with caution when on Smyrna Church Road.

Today we laid to rest our brother, JR. We request continued prayers for his family, friends, special loved ones, and our fire department family. Our fire department will persevere. JR will be deeply missed, but we cherish his memories. We extend our gratitude to Columbus County Fire/Rescue Honor Guard for the use of the ramps. We appreciate the willingness of Fairmont Rural Fire Department, Orrum Fire Department, and Lumberton Fire Department to assist without hesitation. We thank you for the support and comfort from other agencies, including Pine Terrace Fire Department, East Howellsville Fire Department, Lumberton Rescue, Robeson Community College Emergency Training Center, and the many others we did not have the opportunity to speak with. I would like to extend a special thank you to my dedicated members at our station, who selflessly volunteered their time to ensure this unexpected event was pleasing to JR's family. The Smyrna Volunteer Fire Department is committed to providing the best possible emergency services to our community, the Kingsdale Fire District . To that end, we are replacing our aging SCBA units by Honeywell with cutting-edge Drager SCBA. Our citizens should be informed that the older units were reaching the end of their service life, with parts no longer available and non-compliance looming. However, thanks to the acquisition of grants, our fire department was able to minimize its financial outlay.

Our mini fire truck has arrived! This is a real working fire truck. It can pump 100 gallons of water and has lights and sirens, just like our big trucks. Come see us at the fair!

Good day citizens of the Kingsdale Fire District. As fire chief I would like to inform you that Station 33 has passed its 9S Fire Inspection. I give GOD the thanks and praise!!!

I want to thank our very own dynamic duo, Ivy Rogers and Kyle Madden for making sure all our records were in order and ready for viewing.

I also want to thank the State Fire Rating Inspector Lee Kennedy for his professionalism, and our very own county fire marshal, Justin Hunt, was present giving support.

Folks, it takes a lot to keep our volunteer fire departments going. Many assume all fire stations are filled with firefighters at all times, but that is not the case. Many fire departments across the state are having shortages of volunteers. Just imagine the tax increase if all the fire departments in this county went to a full time staff 24/7.

So check with your local fire department in your community and volunteer!

Have a great day and be blessed,

Chief Peter Marcinsky
