Not a bad way to start a Monday.

Sgt. Campbell received this letter from The Climbing Place following National Night Out, and we thought it was worth sharing.

More than 150 kids took a turn on the climbing wall that night, and judging by this letter, the night made an impression beyond the wall too.

Thank you to The Climbing Place for being part of it.

What a night!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for National Night Out 2026 and helped make it such a great evening. Seeing our community come together to meet first responders, local organizations, and one another is what this event is all about.

This event was truly a community effort, and we are grateful to everyone who helped make it possible. Thank you to the Lumberton Police Department, Lumberton Fire Department, N.C. State Highway Patrol, UNCP Police & Public Safety, Onslow County Sheriff's Office, Robeson County Sheriff's Office, City of Lumberton Emergency Services, Lumberton Rescue & EMS, N.C. Department of Adult Correction, Emerging Technology Institute, Chick-fil-A, Walmart, Scrubbies, What's for Lunch, The Climbing Place, John Moore, Hope Locklear, and Retired Police Officer Marc Anderson for your time, support, and commitment to our community.

Most importantly, thank you to every family, neighbor, and visitor who came out to spend the evening with us. We appreciate the opportunity to connect with our community and look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

Some of the most important police work we do starts with a conversation.

This week, Sgt. J. Campbell, Cpl. G. Moore, and Officer T. Cummings had the opportunity to spend time with the youth at Greater Restoration Ministries' Youth Camp.

Together, we talked about making wise choices, how bad decisions can affect your future, peer pressure, gang awareness, social media, choosing the right friends, having the confidence to say no, and the dangers of drugs and va**ng.

Campers also had the opportunity to ask questions, explore an educational drug awareness display, and experience impairment goggles that demonstrated how alcohol and drugs can affect judgment and coordination.

Thank you to Greater Restoration Ministries for welcoming us. We appreciate every opportunity to connect with the youth in our community and have conversations that we hope will make a lasting impact.

Oops... he did it again.

This time, Officer Moore had no idea it was coming.

On Wednesday, members of Lumberton's downtown business community surprised Officer Moore with a plaque of appreciation to recognize the difference he makes every day.

During the presentation, business owners shared story after story about the impact he's had downtown. They talked about how, if they need help, Officer Moore is there, no matter the time or the reason. Whether he's making sure employees get to their vehicles safely after work, helping keep the downtown area clean, changing a flat tire late one evening, or simply answering the call whenever someone needs him, they said he consistently goes above and beyond.

Community policing isn't always about the big moments. More often, it's built through the small acts of service that earn trust one interaction at a time.

Congratulations, Officer Moore, on this well-deserved recognition. And thank you to our downtown business community for taking the time to honor an officer whose commitment to serving others has not gone unnoticed.
