The district calendar for 2026-2027 has been slightly modified. Links to the calendar on the websites, registration packets, back to school letters, and handbooks will be updated tonight.

The changes are as follows:
The 180th day of school is June 16th. If we have multiple snow/emergency days, the final day of school could potentially push us past the 16th. Juneteenth will be observed on Friday, June 18th by all municipal and federal offices, and the schools would be closed if we are still in session. Therefore, the 185th day of school has been pushed from June 23rd to June 24th.

Dear Lunenburg Families,

I hope you are all enjoying these final, beautiful days of summer! As we gear up for an exciting new school year, I am absolutely thrilled to share some wonderful news with our community.

We have officially received the Ignite Virtual Tutoring Grant from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)! This means the cost of many of our students' tutoring seats will be completely covered. Even better, this grant frees up $129,458 from our original additional state aid request, giving us the flexibility to reinvest those funds right back into our schools where our students need it most.

At tomorrow evening's School Committee meeting, I am looking forward to presenting three thoughtful options for how we can best use these available funds to support our children:

Option 1: Financial Accuracy & Transparency. This would fund an independent review of our financial operations, ensuring we are building a strong, transparent foundation for our district's future.

Option 2: Core Learning & Literacy. This option focuses directly on the classroom by adding a 2nd-grade teacher to help keep class sizes small, alongside expanding reading support programs for our older students.

Option 3: Behavioral Stability & Intervention. This would allow us to hire a dedicated behavioral specialist (a Board Certified Behavior Analyst) to proactively support our students' well-being and create the most positive, focused learning environments possible.

All three scenarios include restoring athletic transportation.

The School Committee will carefully review these options tomorrow night and select the path that will move forward to the Finance Committee on Thursday. This decision will help guide our plan of action for a successful year ahead!

Thank you so much for your continued partnership and support. I am so proud of our district and can't wait to see all that our students will accomplish this year.
