Congratulations to our district 5 partners on a very well deserved award!!

Today marks the first day of National EMS Week! Thank you to all members of the EMS Community for the work you do every day for Vermonters. As the week goes on, we'll be recognizing the recipients of awards for their exceptional service. Congratulations to Calex Ambulance Service for being our 2026 Ambulance Service of the Year!

CALEX has built strong, trusted relationships with the communities it serves, regional EMS leadership, and healthcare partners, including Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH). Their teams work seamlessly with emergency department staff to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care and efficient transitions from prehospital to hospital settings, and transport to other levels of care. They are also a collaborative partner in broader community initiatives, including participation in the Governor's Public Safety Enhancement Team (PSET) initiative in St. Johnsbury and the development of the local Situation Table. These efforts reflect a "no wrong door" approach to care, supporting cross-sector coordination and connection to appropriate services. CALEX is also highly responsive to calls and consistently supports other public safety professionals, including monitoring and assisting fire department personnel during active fire scenes to ensure responder safety. Their commitment to teamwork and mutual support strengthens the entire emergency response system.

🚑 Member Spotlight: Jesse Boemig 🚑

This week, we’re proud to highlight Jesse Boemig, a dedicated member of the Gilman Lunenburg Rescue Squad who brings a lifelong passion for emergency services to our team.

💬 What made you want to join EMS or volunteer with the rescue squad?
“I grew up around the emergency services. From a young age, I remember going to the firehouse and ambulance bays, playing on the trucks, and wanting to be just like my dad. I guess it just runs in the family.”

💬 What is the most rewarding part of serving the community?
“I think the most rewarding part is knowing that no matter the time or day, we’re all out there doing our best to better the community and be the first step in providing aid to our residents and visitors in their time of need—not just on the medical side, but the fire side as well.”

💬 What do you do outside of EMS?
“I work for Gilman Water and Sewer and also serve with Lunenburg Fire.”

💬 What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
“I enjoy going antique hunting, spending time with my family, and exploring new places.”

💬 Something people might be surprised to learn about you?
“I enjoy woodworking projects and repairs. I built a podium in woodshop back in elementary school that, to my knowledge, is still being used at Lancaster School.”

💬 What would you say to someone thinking about joining the rescue squad?
“I’d tell you to try it out. It’s not for everyone. There are some long days and late nights, but in the end, it’s a rewarding opportunity.”

👏 Thank you, Jesse, for your continued dedication and service to our community!

🚑 Member Spotlight 🚑

This week, we’re proud to highlight one of our dedicated members who brings heart, resilience, and a strong desire to help others to the Gilman Lunenburg Rescue Squad.

💬 What made you want to join EMS or volunteer with the rescue squad?
“Every few years, I seem to find myself involved in some kind of emergency or life-threatening situation. After losing someone close to me, I felt helpless in their moment of need. Even though I know I did everything I could, it pushed me to want to learn more and be better prepared. I also needed something to channel my grief. I know what it feels like to feel helpless and alone, and I don’t want others to feel that way. Even if I’m just a calming voice for someone, I feel like I’ve made a difference.”

💬 What is the most rewarding part of serving the community?
“Knowing I’m giving back to the town I grew up in.”

💬 What do you do outside of EMS?
“I drive truck.”

💬 What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
“I like tinkering on home and mechanical projects, thrift and antique shopping, and spending time with family and friends.”

💬 Something people might be surprised to learn about you?
“I’m a lifelong self-taught artist and have work featured in a published children’s book. I’ve technically ‘graduated’ three times—when I was 10, I earned an art scholarship to attend college later on, but instead I became a certified welder at 16. I still enjoy painting, sketching, and sculpting.”

💬 What would you say to someone thinking about joining the rescue squad?
“Do it if you think you can handle it. It’s not for everyone, but it’s rewarding.”

👏 Thank you for your dedication and for making a difference in our community every day!
