Today 22 years ago this amazing organization was formed that created the path that would connect us all together today. Thanks to the trailblazers Junior League of Lynchburg that saw a need in our community and jumped into action.
Thank you to you all for volunteering your support, time, talents, and finances because you see the value of Kids' Haven.
How fitting that today is NAGC #UnitedInGrief. There is not a specific time for this so you can still participate.

Our partner, The @New York Life Foundation, has released, The Golden Sweater, a free downloadable children’s book along with a discussion guide for families. This story chronicles a child’s journey through loss, grief, resiliency and healing. We are proud to share this tool that can be used to discuss the important, yet very difficult, topic of death with children, especially during this time.

For every download of the book, the New York Life Foundation will donate $1.00 to organizations like the NAGC, to support grieving children and families along with other childhood bereavement organizations, including Eluna, Comfort Zone Camp, and Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) up to $175,000.

Mother’s Day is Sunday. For some that means celebrating a mother or mother figure that is alive. For others that means celebrating and remembering a mother or mother figure that has died. This activity (copy and paste link into your browser) gives children/teens and adults a chance to talk about their mother/mother figure that is alive or has died.
Special thanks to Bo's Place for providing this wonderful activity.

If you’re worried about Mother’s Day for a child/teen grieving the death of his/her mother, please know that you are not alone. There is no “correct” way to handle Mother’s Day. Talk with your child/teen about Mother’s Day. Create a safe space where it’s okay to talk about his/her mom.

Thank you Junior League of Lynchburg!

Our third Community Partner spotlight is Kids' Haven: A Center for Grieving Children, who we partnered with in 2017-2018. We loved providing meals to @kidshavenlynchburg at their group nights and providing funding for their butterfly garden and instrument at Riverside Park! Fun fact: we founded this nonprofit in 1998 as a project of the #JLLynchburg!

This could be your nonprofit! Interested in applying for 2020-2021? Application is due by April 30th : http://www.jrleaguelynchburg.org/community-partnerships/cp-application/ #JLLynchburg

We Remember Them..

Kids' Haven is an organization dedicated to serving the unique needs of grieving children and their families through support and education.

The foundation of Kids' Haven's philosophy is built on the beliefs that grief is a natural reaction to the death of a loved one; within each person is the capacity to heal; caring and acceptance assist the healing process; each person grieves in his/her own way and in his/own time; and sharing with others in a safe and supportive environment allows children to learn about grief and to participate fully in their own journey to recovery.
