Today we honor those that didn’t make it home. So much can be said for the sacrifices of our military members and their families, but today is set aside for the fallen.

To the gold star families, you are in our thoughts today.

“When you go home tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow we gave our today”

A quote originally penned in 1916 by Englishman John Maxwell Edmunds.

Respect and honor 🫡

Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is heartbroken to share that Game Warden Pilot Joshua Tibbetts died this morning in a plane crash in Avon, ME.

Game Warden Pilot Tibbetts served the people of Maine as a Maine Game Warden for 18 years, including the last three years as a pilot for Maine Warden Service. In that role, his specialized aviation work supported search and rescue, law enforcement, fisheries and wildlife conservation, and public safety across the state.

This is an incredibly difficult loss for his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Maine Warden Service. We ask the public to keep his loved ones, his fellow Game Wardens, and all those affected by this tragedy in their thoughts in the days ahead.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. The Department will cooperate fully with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

We are grateful for the emergency personnel who responded to the scene and for the support already being shown to the Maine Warden Service family.

Thank you for all the agencies that brought Mr. Beckwith home.

‼️HE HAS BEEN FOUND‼️

At approximately 8:45 a.m. on May 9, 2026, nearly 24 hours after Mr. Beckwith left for his morning walk, he was located by a Maine Search and Rescue Dog Team.

He was transported by Maine Forestry Helicopter to meet an awaiting ambulance. It is reported his condition is non critical at this time.

We want to thank the many agencies who assisted. As a public safety community ours is second to none. We won’t try and name them all for fear of leaving an organization out, but you know who you are.

Thank you for all the messages and Information relayed. It is very much appreciated.

We need your help!

Dennis Beckwith, 76 of Trescott left his Dixie Road residence on May 8, 2026 at approximately 9:00 a.m. for his morning walk. Mr. Beckwith has not been seen or heard from since.

He was last seen wearing jeans, a blue sweatshirt and blue baseball hat.

Presently, law enforcement have several K9’s and drones on scene. We ask that the public avoid the search area at this time in order to avoid contamination.

If you have seen, spoken to or know where he is please contact the Washington County Regional Communications Center. Call 911 or the non-emergency number at 255-8308.

We want to congratulate these three Emergency Communications Specialists for why they do. They are often the lifeline on the other end of the 911 call.

What they do is vitally important, but they are rarely seen or recognized.

They save lives snd this recognition from the National Emergency Numbers Association is more than earned!

For 42 years the country has celebrated National Correctional Officer Week.

The first full week in May is dedicated to these professionals whose work goes largely unnoticed and definitely under appreciated.

As an organization we sometimes fall short on giving the recognition deserved to these professionals whose work is behind locked doors. We have made a commitment to make sure that the day to day details of public safety don’t get in the way of recognition for a tough job well done.

The Washington County Jail has been over capacity for much of the past year and a half. The staff show up for work and take it all in stride, seemingly unfazed.

We have been short staffed for the past few months and staff show up and fill in the where needed.

2026 is already shaping up to be as busy as 2025 as the correctional officers deal daily with a diverse group of inmates.

The picture below of a homemade “shank” underscores the potential danger every time they come to work.

This weapon is one that was found during a room search a couple months ago. Finding weapons is not uncommon.

We are thankful for all the jail staff who contribute to the public safety of Washington County. Every position is important from the line staff, supervisors, kitchen staff and maintenance. They all have a part that keeps the operations moving forward.

It doesn’t go unnoticed!

Congratulations to Deputy Abbey Allen for being selected as the next K9 team at Washington SO. It was a tough competitive process with Abbey coming out on top.

Also a hearty welcome to our newest team member “Ace”. An 11-month old German Shepherd who comes from strong working lines.

Morgan Frost, owner of Pine State Shepherds donated Ace to the Sheriff’s Office. We are beyond thankful and appreciative for this donation.

PSA-Scam alert!

This is nothing new, but it is circulating again. If you receive anything like the flyer below DO NOT send money.

DO NOT send money!

DO NOT send money!

If you do send money it’s very unlikely law enforcement intervention will be productive.

In short, you will not get your money back.

PRESS RELEASE!

February 23, 2026

Washington County, Maine - On February 20, 2026, Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office were conducting proactive enforcement efforts focused on locating and apprehending individuals with outstanding arrest warrants. As a part of these efforts, deputies were led to 71 Augusta Drive in Steuben to conduct a warrant check.

While at the Steuben location, deputies observed suspected drug paraphernalia, which led to a probation search of Corey Perry, and his residence, as he is currently on probation for other criminal convictions. Probable cause was developed for the arrest of Corey Perry (42) and Laura Anderson (36) for unlawful possession of scheduled drugs. Corey Perry and Laura Anderson were both transported to the Washington County Jail without incident.

As a part of the ongoing investigation, deputies applied for and were granted a search warrant for the residence at 71 Augusta Drive. While executing the search warrant, deputies came under gunfire from four suspects who had previously fled from the 71 Augusta Drive residence.

Deputies responded to the threat and subsequently all four individuals were located and safely taken into custody. The suspects were found in possession of 272.7 grams of Co***ne, 4.3 grams of Fentanyl, and $1,373 cash. The suspects were identified and charged as follows;

1. Diaz Gomez, Erlyn, Yojunsel (22) of Boston Massachusetts, Aggravated Trafficking in a Schedule W drug, Class A and Reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon Class B

2. Gonzales Adame, Freudi, Angelo (24) of Boston Massachusetts, Aggravated Trafficking in a Schedule W drug, Class A and Reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon Class B

3. Baex, Yermi Alberto (18) of Boston Massachusetts, Aggravated Trafficking in a Schedule W drug, Class A and Reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon Class B

4. Willey, Nena (37) of Steuben, Aggravated Trafficking in a Schedule W drug, Class A and Reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon Class B. Willey had outstanding warrants for Violation of bail, Unlawful Furnishing and Theft.
All four individuals were transported to the Washington County Jail. The incident is still under investigation and additional charges may be pending. All four suspects were arraigned on Monday February 23rd. Perry is being held on $10,000 cash bail with an additional probation hold. Willey is also being held on $10,000 cash bail with no bail allowed pending probation revocation. Gomez is being held on $50,000 cash bail along with Gonzalas and Baez also held on $50,000 cash bail. Both Gomez and Gonzalas have extensive criminal history out of Massachusetts as well as previous deportation orders. Anderson posted bail on February 21st.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from the Gouldsboro Police Department, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. The Sheriff's Office extends its appreciation for the coordinated response and continued interagency cooperation.
