The Ruby Laffoon Steve Beshear Dinner is fastly approaching, It is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, 2026 at the Madisonville Country Club, 105 Country Club Ln, Madisonville, KY. Tickets can be purchased from Brad Downall or Rosalind Holcombe. Get them while they last. Come, be informed. This is a very, very important election and learn about local and state-level candidates.

I am Misty Cavanaugh. I was born and raised here in Madisonville. I have lived in Ward 1 for all but a year and a half of my life. I graduated from Madisonville-North Hopkins in 2006 and Madisonville Community College in 2008 before going to the University of Kentucky, where I received my Bachelor’s degree in 2010. Later, I earned my Master’s degree from the University of Arkansas. After graduating from UK, I came back to Madisonville and started working for McCoy and McCoy Labs in 2011 before they were acquired by a larger network of labs, where I still work today. I have been on city council for 7 years now and have a 6 year old son.

I started out running for city council because I wanted to see a more livable community and it seemed all of my friends were leaving. Now I want to see that community for my son. Over the last few years we have made great strides in making this a more livable community, not only for current residents, but also for those we hope to attract to our growing population. We have seen these changes in retail developments, the sports complex and increased housing. However, there is more work to be done. Having a younger city council member who will live and continue to work here for the foreseeable future is vital to attaining the goals we want to see for ourselves and for the next generation. This is why I am asking for your vote in November.
