Like so many families in Putnam Valley, I am deeply frustrated and concerned by the unaffordable energy bills from NYSEG. No one should ever be forced to choose between heating their home and putting food on the table, yet that is exactly the position too many of our neighbors are in right now.
I have been in contact with our New York State Assemblyman, Matt Slater, on multiple occasions, and he is fighting for the people of Putnam Valley in Albany. Assemblyman Slater is calling on Governor Kathy Hochul to declare a state of emergency so we can deliver immediate relief to residents who need help now. We cannot wait—there must be a short-term fix to bring energy costs down for families right away.
I have also spoken with Bill Gouldman - Putnam County Legislator - District # 2, who is fully aligned with Assemblyman Slater and me on this issue. We all agree that while immediate action is critical, we also need a long-term plan to address the systemic failures that have led us here and ensure this never happens again.
I am attaching a video of Assemblyman Slater speaking directly with Chairman Christian of the New York State Public Service Commission. As you will see, many of the tough and necessary questions posed went unanswered. That lack of accountability is unacceptable. Our residents deserve transparency, action, and real solutions—and we will continue pushing until they get them.
