The Yorktown community came out this evening to support the family of Sheridan Gorman. Hearing Sheridan's family and friends speak tonight was very moving. It is devastating. 18 year old life is lost at such a young age. May she rest in peace.

Several weeks ago I sent a letter to our County Executive Kevin Byrne advocating for the Town of Putnam Valley to be included in any future studies or expansion planning of the Putnam On-Demand micro-transit transportation program.

Many residents have expressed the importance and need for public transportation in our town. Reliable, accessible, and affordable transportation is very important to me and I will continue to work tirelessly to bring this program to Putnam Valley.

My letter and the response from our County Executive are attached.

Recently, a resident of Floridan Estates contacted me regarding the need for financial assistance to address PFAS levels in private wells and bring them within acceptable ranges. In 2020, former Governor Andrew Cuomo lowered the allowable threshold levels for PFAS and PFOS in drinking water, which brought increased attention to the need for testing and remediation in private wells.

Over the past three years, the Putnam Valley Town Board has been in contact with both the New York State Department of Health and the Putnam County Department of Health requesting assistance for residents with private wells throughout Putnam Valley.

I am happy to share that, thanks to the efforts of County Executive Kevin Byrne and Bill Gouldman - Putnam County Legislator - District # 2 , Putnam County is now one of only five counties in New York State eligible for grant funding to assist homeowners with private well remediation related to PFAS contamination.

Homeowners with private wells are encouraged to contact the Putnam County Department of Health as soon as possible to learn about eligibility and apply for funding. Because these funds are limited, residents should reach out promptly.

Access to transportation shouldn’t depend on your zip code.

I’ve been working with County Executive Kevin Byrne to bring a proven, successful public transit option to Putnam Valley that includes full paratransit service for residents who need it most.

This is something that means a lot to me because I have family members who do not have the ability to drive and depend on public transportation.

Putnam On-Demand is already successful in Patterson, and there’s no reason Putnam Valley shouldn’t benefit too. It’s essentially a public option Uber/Lyft. It's affordable, efficient, and incredibly popular with residents who use it every day. With just a few taps, you can schedule a ride right from your phone. Students, seniors, and riders with disabilities pay just $1.25 per ride. The standard fare is only $2.50 per ride. That’s real affordability. That’s real accessibility. That’s real independence.

Whether it’s getting to work, a doctor’s appointment, after-school activities, or the grocery store, reliable transportation matters.

I will continue fighting to bring Putnam On-Demand to Putnam Valley so our seniors, students, working families, and residents with disabilities have the mobility they deserve.

Putnam Valley should not be left behind.

Like so many families in Putnam Valley, I am deeply frustrated and concerned by the unaffordable energy bills from NYSEG. No one should ever be forced to choose between heating their home and putting food on the table, yet that is exactly the position too many of our neighbors are in right now.

I have been in contact with our New York State Assemblyman, Matt Slater, on multiple occasions, and he is fighting for the people of Putnam Valley in Albany. Assemblyman Slater is calling on Governor Kathy Hochul to declare a state of emergency so we can deliver immediate relief to residents who need help now. We cannot wait—there must be a short-term fix to bring energy costs down for families right away.

I have also spoken with Bill Gouldman - Putnam County Legislator - District # 2, who is fully aligned with Assemblyman Slater and me on this issue. We all agree that while immediate action is critical, we also need a long-term plan to address the systemic failures that have led us here and ensure this never happens again.

I am attaching a video of Assemblyman Slater speaking directly with Chairman Christian of the New York State Public Service Commission. As you will see, many of the tough and necessary questions posed went unanswered. That lack of accountability is unacceptable. Our residents deserve transparency, action, and real solutions—and we will continue pushing until they get them.
