⚖️ The Circuit Clerk’s Office cannot provide legal advice.

This means we are unable to:
• Tell you what you should file
• Recommend what you should say in court
• Interpret laws or explain how they apply to your situation

✅ What we can do:

• Direct you to helpful resources and legal aid services
• Share information about local programs like legal clinics or assistance opportunities

If you need legal advice, we encourage you to contact a licensed attorney or take advantage of available legal aid resources.

We’re here to help connect you to the right information—thank you for understanding! 💼

Resources Available for Self-Represented Litigants in April

Hancock County residents who are navigating the court system without an attorney will have two valuable opportunities in April to access free legal assistance and resources.

On April 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Mobile Justice Van will be at the Hancock County Courthouse. This service provides free legal support to individuals who may not otherwise have access to legal assistance, with no appointment required.

Additionally, the Lawyer in the Library program will be held on April 16, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Nauvoo Public Library. Through this program, volunteer attorneys offer free, one-on-one 20-minute sessions to assist self-represented litigants with legal questions, document review, and guidance on next steps.

Participants are encouraged to register in advance; however, walk-ins will be accepted as space allows.

These programs are part of ongoing efforts to improve access to justice by providing meaningful assistance and resources to individuals handling legal matters on their own.
