Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. While Memorial Day often marks the unofficial start of summer, its true purpose remains solemn, to recognize the profound courage and selflessness of those who gave their lives so that we may enjoy the freedoms we cherish today.

In our own community of Van Wert, we are reminded that service is a calling. We extend our deepest gratitude to the families of the fallen, whose own sacrifices are immeasurable. Your loved ones exemplify the highest standard of duty, and their legacy lives on through the peace and security we work to maintain every day.

As we spend time with our families and friends, let us take a moment of silence to reflect on the cost of our liberty.

"Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude."
— Harry S. Truman

To all who have served and to those who continue to protect our community, thank you for your commitment to the greater good.

The Van Wert Police Department would like to extend a sincere thank you to our friends at Kennedy Manufacturing for their incredible generosity.

Kennedy Manufacturing has donated a 49" 10-Drawer Maintenance PRO with Power Drawer cabinet to be raffled off at our upcoming 30th Annual DARE Golf Outing on May 9, 2026. This professional grade piece of equipment is a massive addition to our fundraising efforts.

Partnerships like this allow us to continue providing vital programs like DARE to our local youth. We are proud to have such a dedicated local manufacturer supporting our mission and our community.

We are incredibly proud to announce that Mayor Kenneth J. Markward has officially proclaimed April 12th through 18th, 2026 as National Telecommunications Week in the City of Van Wert!

Earlier today, the Mayor presented our dispatchers with a formal proclamation honoring their dedication, compassion, and professionalism. Our dispatchers are the first point of contact in an emergency. They are the calm voices that guide help to your door and keep our officers and firefighters safe on the scene.

Please join us in thanking our 911 team for the vital work they do every single day behind the scenes!

Behind every call for help is a calm voice and a steady hand. These are the professionals who never hesitate when our community needs them most.

This National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week we recognize the unseen first responders who answer the call. They gather the facts and guide both the public and our officers through the moments that matter most.

We are proud to recognize our dedicated team:

Dispatcher Ebert

Dispatcher Evans

Dispatcher Gentry

Dispatcher Jackman

Dispatcher Replogle

Dispatcher Scott

Dispatcher Spoor

If you know any of these individuals, please take a moment to thank them for their dedication. Their composure is what keeps our city running during a crisis.

To our dispatchers: we hear you and we appreciate you. We simply could not do this job without you.

If you find one of our blue door hangers at your home, please don't worry! It is just a check-in to help keep our neighborhoods looking their best.

We know the official language on those notices can sometimes be a bit much, so we created this guide to make things easier to understand and get squared away.

What to Know

• No Fines that day: That first door hanger is purely for education. Our goal is just to help everyone stay on the same page.

• Simple Fixes: Whether it is moving some items out of sight or updating car tags, you have 10 days to get it sorted out.

• Check the Guide: We’ve attached a simple breakdown here to show exactly what to look for and how to fix it easily.

We are all in this together to keep Van Wert a good place to live. If you have any questions or aren't sure where to start, please reach out!
