While the risk to the general public remains very low, the CDC is currently responding to an outbreak of the Andes strain of Hantavirus connected to a cruise ship. Hantaviruses are most commonly spread through contact with rodents, including mice and rats, and their urine, droppings or saliva.

Keeping rodents out of your home is one of the best ways to reduce exposure to disease.

Helpful reminders:
✔ Seal entry points around your home
✔ Wear gloves and a mask when cleaning potentially contaminated areas
✔ Wet clean with disinfectant — never dry sweep or vacuum rodent droppings
✔ Securely bag and dispose of waste properly

Upcoming Natural Gas Infrastructure Maintenance by Algonquin Gas Transmission

The Town of Glastonbury would like to inform residents of an upcoming natural gas infrastructure maintenance project to be conducted by Algonquin Gas Transmission, LLC (Enbridge).

Please note: This is NOT a Town project, and there will be no impacts to Town-owned land as part of this work.

The work will take place within existing pipeline easements at two locations in town:

In the vicinity of Chalker Hill Road, near the intersection with Hebron Avenue (Route 94)

On Thompson Street, near the intersection with Chimney Sweep Hill Road

The project is expected to begin the week of June 15, 2026, and conclude the week of August 31, 2026.

Residents may experience periodic, short traffic delays near the work areas during normal construction hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, primarily at the beginning and end of on-site work. Once work is underway, activity is expected to remain localized within the project areas. The company does not anticipate any interruptions to utility service.

According to Algonquin, this project is part of routine integrity management of the existing natural gas system and does not involve any expansion. The company plans to install equipment to support inline inspection of the pipeline, intended to help ensure its continued safe and reliable operation while minimizing future disruptions.

According to the company’s representative, the project has obtained all necessary state and federal permits and approvals, and environmental protections and on-site monitoring will be in place throughout the work.

Additional updates, including project timing, will be shared as they become available.

For questions about the project, residents are encouraged to contact Algonquin Gas Transmission, LLC (Enbridge) directly at 888-217-9110.
