The 341st Missile Wing, headquartered at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana, is one of three U.S. Air Force bases that maintains and operates the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile. The 341st Missile Wing reports directly to 20th Air Force, F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming, and is part of Air Force Global Strike Command, headquartered at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana. The mission of the 341st Missile Wing is Airmen defending the American way of life with combat-ready ICBMs.
The 40th Helicopter Squadron is a tenant unit assigned to Malmtrom AFB. It ensures strategic security by providing flexible, rapid-response helicopter airlift support to the 341st Missile Wing. The 40th also performs aerial surveillance of Department of Defense strategic weapon convoys and short notice emergency security forces responses; supports emergency war order taskings, and priority personnel and logistical transportation. The 40th Helicopter Squadron has a proud rescue history and currently conducts search and rescue missions in support of the Joint Chiefs of Staff National Search and Rescue plan.
The 819th Rapid Engineer Deployable, Heavy Operational Repair Squadron, Engineer (RED HORSE) is a self-sufficient, 240-person mobile squadron capable of rapid response and independent operations in remote, austere environments worldwide. It provides heavy repair capability and construction support when requirements exceed normal base civil engineer capabilities and where Army engineer support is not readily available. The squadron is a tenant unit at Malmstrom and is assigned to Air Combat Command.
