I am 54 years old and am presently the Assistant District Attorney for Greer and Harmon Counties. My family made our permanent home in Mangum nearly 11 years ago. My family has well established roots in Western Oklahoma. In the 1880s, my great grandparents came to Oklahoma Territory to claim and farm homesteads. My father, John A. Yarborough, was a WWII Veteran and a retired farmer. My parents liv
ed in Boise City, Oklahoma where I was born, raised, and graduated high school. I grew up with love, discipline, and family values. Growing up, I worked on my grandfather's farm with my brothers and dad for several years, and later operated the farm as I began a career in the law. I have been blessed with a spectacular wife, LaMesa. We have been married for nearly 27 years and we have four wonderful children. Brittany, Tiffany, Zachary, and Seth have all graduated from Mangum High School and have pursued college educations. I am proud to say that they each possess Southwest Oklahoma values and morals. LaMesa is employed in Duke and Gould as a Postmaster Relief for the U.S. Postal Service. Brittany works at Mercy Heart Hospital, Tiffany teaches at Putnam City Schools, Zachary and Seth attend college at Oklahoma State University. I have a unique and extensive background. After graduating high school in 1978, I relocated to Dallas, Texas and became a communications dispatcher for the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. At age 19 the Dallas County Sheriff commissioned me as one of the youngest Deputy Sheriffs ever employed by Dallas County. I was assigned to the corrections division and primarily worked at the maximum security jail, which housed over 1,000 inmates. Three years later, at the age of 22, I was selected from a candidate pool of over 15,000 applicants to work for the California Highway Patrol. Yearning to return to Oklahoma, and at the age 25 I proudly accepted an offer to become a Trooper with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. While working for OHP, I attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, earning a Bachelors Degree with honors in December of 1994. Though the years, I became a licensed aircraft pilot, competed in the Oklahoma and National Police Pistol Championships as a long standing member of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Pistol Team, and was recognized as a member of the Governor’s 20 (one of the best pistol shots in the state). I earned an Advanced Certification by the Oklahoma Counsel on Law Enforcement, Education and Training. I have been a Boy Scout Leader, served as an airport board member, provided transportation and security for the Governor of the State of Oklahoma, President of the Texas and Greer County Bar Associations, and instructed at police academies. In 1995, I attended Washburn University School of Law, earning a Juris Doctor Degree with honors in May 1997. While attending law school, I worked part time with a legal clinic, representing those who could not afford an attorney. I am a licensed attorney in Kansas as well as Oklahoma. After graduation from law school, the Oklahoma Supreme Court granted me a special license to practice law, allowing me to work as an Assistant District Attorney in Guymon, Oklahoma beginning in July, 1997. My family and I relocated to Greer County in 2003. I have been employed as your Assistant District Attorney since January, 2004. As a county and state peace officer, I investigated crimes and always endeavored to treat all people with dignity and respect. As an Assistant District Attorney, I have personally handled hundreds of court cases including many jury trials. My colleagues recognize me as a common sense prosecutor with a keen knowledge of the law, who will be an even handed Judge with unquestionable integrity and dedication.
