As I wrap up my first year on the school board, I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting.
I ran because I wanted all of our students to be seen and valued, to help bring accountability to the board so our district can be consistent, reliable, and strong through both challenges and successes.
What I didn’t expect was how much of this work happens behind the scenes. While committee meetings are accessible, the board meetings are visible, my preparation for all of that is not and that has given me a new appreciation for the role.
I’ve also gained a lot of respect for the boardroom itself. It’s shown me that sometimes change is necessary to start a new chapter and keep moving forward.
One thing I’m especially proud of: our Parent Teacher Advisory Committee meets for the first time tonight. I first mentioned it back in August, and by staying on it, it’s now becoming a reality. It is a small step, but it’s an important one for building stronger connections with our families.
I’m grateful for the relationships that are growing - with fellow board members, district leadership, and our superintendent, who continues to be responsive and thoughtful. Trust is being built, and I’m committed to staying accessible.
This year also brought loss to our district. In those moments, I felt the weight of wanting to do more while respecting the role of our administrators to lead.
As I head into year two, I’m focusing on two things: doing a better job explaining the “why” behind our decisions, and making more time to visit all of our schools.
Thank you again for the opportunity to serve. There’s still a lot of work ahead, and I’m committed to it.

I’m late to the day but not the week that honors all of you. Thank you all for the support.

Tears during What a Wonderful World.
Thunderous applause for Rosa Parks.
A final medley sing-along worthy of Soldier Field.
Grateful I got to be there. 💙

I’ll date myself - I had SROs in my West Texas schools in the 1990s.
They were nothing like these two officers.
Officers Beauchamp and Bernardy have completely rewritten what the SRO program means to me, and I’m grateful our students get to experience their care and dedication.
Applause for Officers Beauchamp and Bernardy! 👏👏👏

In a time when cops are scrutinized more than ever, and most headlines involving the police are reporting where things went wrong, two Manhattan police officers are doing their best to exemplify what community policing should be about.

I’ll admit it.
Did the 6-7 dance because our family won for the first time ever, after 6 appearances, to the winning number O-67.
Always a good night.
Thank you MSD114 PTO!
