We make Marines. We win our nation's battles. We develop quality citizens. These are the promises the Marine Corps makes to our nation and to our Marines. They are the reason for our demanding recruit training process. They form our reputation as America's force in readiness and are honored through the reciprocal commitment, between the Marine and Marine Corps, expressed in our motto: SEMPER FIDELIS

Mission: We make Marines. We win our nation's battles. We develop quality citizens.

Why the Marine Corps? As simple as it gets: I wanted to get out of the small town of Cleburne, travel, become a better person, and of course, be a little badass. I'm here three months after graduating bootcamp and I wouldn't change a thing about it. I'm glad I was pushed to and past my limits. It was tough and it was challenging, but I made it and I'm glad I didn't give up on myself. There's no better feeling than coming back home and proving everyone who once doubted me wrong and to know I'm making family and friends around me proud. The opportunities and benefits the Marines has offered me are endless and so great, but being a part of something greater than myself is the best part about it. I've met and made great friends; my brothers and sisters. I know that the time I'll be spending away from home won't be as bad because of them. I have a family that I know I can count on forever, one that'll push me everyday to better myself even when I think i'm at my best. Looking back at it now, I'm thankful I sat in an office and talked to a recruiter to explore all of my options. I'm even more thankful that I took a couple steps forward and joined. If I had to go through all that training & being away from family to be where i'm at, I would do it all over again. No doubt in my mind. I'm proud of myself, where I'm at, who I have become, and I know from here on out better things are yet to come.

One of our greatest moments. The raising of this flag ensured we would have a Marine Corps for the next 500 years.

Seventy one years ago today, Marines raised the American flag atop Mt. Suribachi and AP photographer Joe Rosenthal captured the iconic moment.

All day on our Instagram (@Marines) and Twitter (@USMC) we're covering the historic day as if it were happening now.

True Hero.

Jason Dunham was awarded the Medal of Honor for deliberately covering an enemy grenade while on patrol with 3d Battalion 7th Marines in Husaybah, Iraq. His actions saved the lives of nearby Marines. The United States Navy named Arleigh Burke-class destroyer DDG-109 the USS Jason Dunham, and it was commissioned on 12 November 2010. The family donated his dress blue uniform to the ship, and the National Museum of the Marine Corps is assisting with its preservation and display.

Last week, Science Applications International Corporation unveiled the first of 10 Assault Amphibious Vehicles with the Survivability Upgrade. The AAV-SU have upgraded armor, automotive and suspension, blast-mitigating seats, spall liners and external fuel tanks.

SAIC is expected to make delivery of the first vehicles to the Marine Corps in March. Vehicles will then enter extensive testing, and Marines in the operating forces can expect to see delivery of the AAV-SU in 2019, with full operational capability by 2023.

These vehicles are meant to serve as a capability bridge as the Marine Corps moves to replace the AAV with the new ACV.
