September 9, 2026, was an exciting and meaningful day for the City of Maple Plain and North Shore Development as we officially broke ground on Maple & Main, a new 95-unit apartment building in the heart of downtown.

Maple & Main is designed to complement the character and feel of downtown Maple Plain while creating additional housing opportunities for our community. The development will also bring pedestrian-friendly streetscape improvements, underground parking, a workout room, a golf simulator, and a fourth-floor sky lounge overlooking Main Street.

This project carries deep significance because of the history of the site. Maple & Main will stand on the former site of Maple Plain City Hall and the beloved Speedy/Olson’s gas station. The journey to redevelop this property has been long. Discussions about relocating City Hall began in the fall of 2013 before I was an elected official. In March 2014, the City Council approved renting space from Orono Schools at the Orono Discovery Center and moving City Hall there temporarily. In November 2015, the City Council approved demolishing the old City Hall and cleaning up the site with the hope of making it more marketable for future development.

Over the years, numerous developers looked at the property, and several proposals came before the City Council. Unfortunately, none were ultimately successful. Fast forward 11 years, and here we are, September 9, 2026, celebrating the groundbreaking of Maple & Main.

About a year and a half ago, Matt and his team at North Shore Development approached the City about the possibility of building in Maple Plain. What began as a conversation has now become a project that will bring new residents, new housing opportunities, investment, and energy to our downtown.

Matt and the entire North Shore Development team have been tremendous community partners. We are grateful they chose Maple Plain, and we are excited to continue building a strong partnership as this project moves forward.

We celebrate more than just a groundbreaking. We celebrate progress, partnership, and the future of downtown Maple Plain. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who helped make Maple & Main possible. We can’t wait to see this vision become a reality!

A quick update from Monday evening's monthly City Council business meeting. During the meeting, we heard from Orono School Board representative Wendy Lundsgaard. We also appointed Nathan Pearson to fill the vacant Council seat. Mr. Pearson was officially sworn in during the meeting. I look forward to serving my neighbors alongside Councilmember Pearson. Together, we are better!

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend the grand opening of the Koch Family Kennels for Loyal & Healing Companions at the Bravo Zulu House in Winnebago, MN.

The Bravo Zulu House is an all-men's military sober home dedicated to the housing needs of veterans and combating PTSD. In partnership with K9s for Warriors, every resident has the opportunity to have a rescue dog, an initiative described as "saving lives at both ends of the leash." The Orono Rotary Club and the Plymouth Rotary Club each sponsored a kennel for the facility.

During my tour, I spoke with a few of the residents. As one conversation ended, I shook the veteran's hand and said, "Thank you for your service." He looked at me and replied, "You're worth it, ma'am." His response was truly moving.

I am incredibly humbled to be a small part of this collaborative effort to support our veterans.

Highway 12 is back open as crews remain on scene continuing utility work. Please use caution while driving through the area. Residents who had been evacuated can return to their residences. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

**URGENT**

Please avoid the area of Highway 12 between Halgren Road and Budd Avenue in Maple Plain. The road is closed and traffic is being rerouted due to a gas leak.

It was a beautiful Monday spent on the golf course, raising money for our hometown heroes.

A special thank you to Pioneer Creek Golf Course for hosting the event, to McGarry's Pub for organizing this annual charity fundraiser, and to every hole sponsor and foursome that participated.

We began the scramble at 11:00 a.m. with a siren sh***un start. The day concluded back at McGarry's Pub with a delicious buffet, prizes, and an opportunity to connect.

Thank you again to everyone who made this event possible. All proceeds raised will go directly to our local first responders, West Hennepin Public Safety and West Suburban Fire District.
