An interesting and informative analysis of our New York State Senate district. Marcellus is part of District #48, with Rachel May as our State Senator. May has served in the State Senate since her first win in 2018. The terms are two years, and she is running for re-election again in 2026.

Around 200 voters, out of 1316 registered in the Village of Marcellus (according to the county's latest published record from November 2025), voted in the March 18, 2026 Village elections.

That's a 15% turnout, which is far too low.

Marcellus Democrats have already started circulating a petition to put a referendum on next year's Village ballot. The referendum will give Village voters a voice in deciding whether Village elections should continue to be in March or should be moved to November.

We believe November is best. It will save your taxpayer dollars since the costs associated with November elections are covered by the county. It will be more convenient for residents since they can do all voting for the year on one day and time. And it will increase turnout and competition which gives voters more choice. A no brainer.

Some interesting village level voter statistics from the County Board of Elections. These are the latest they’ve posted and are from November of 2025. In the Village of Marcellus specifically, we have more registered democrats than republicans (444 to 388). There are an additional 403 voters who did not select any party and very small number in minor parties.
