Earlier this year, local author and historian Steven Tom visited Switzer Library and gave a wonderful presentation on WWI aviator Jim McConnell. Steve is back with a new presentation on pioneer fighter pilot Kiffin Rockwell!

During WWI, Kiffin Rockwell left Atlanta to fight for France and became one of the world’s first fighter pilots. An all-American fighter squadron, the Lafayette Escadrille, soon formed. Learn how Kiffin Rockwell became a charter member of this elite organization.

We are always appreciative of local community helpers who take time out of their day to visit the library.

Firefighters from Cobb County Fire Station #14 visited Mountain View Regional Library for a Fire Safety storytime last week. Little ones listened to stories and songs about firefighters and fire trucks. They watched a firefighter dress in all his gear and learned he's there to help, even if he looks a little scary. Then, everyone went outside to see Ladder Truck #1. Touch-A-Truck time ended when the truck was called away for an emergency, so the children got to see the firefighters in action, lowering the ladder and getting ready to help someone.

We’re celebrating our young readers who have completed the 1000 Books B4 Kindergarten program at a special Completion Celebration on Saturday, October 24 at 10:30 am at North Cobb Library! Families are invited to join us for a fun event featuring a photo with our reading mascot Dewey, completion certificates, graduation caps, crafts, and light refreshments as we celebrate this amazing milestone. Come and enjoy a celebration of Diwali, an Indian Festival of Lights! This festival represents a new beginning and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

There will be festive crafts, henna art, Indian food to sample, rangoli, and dance and music performances. All ages and cultures are welcome!

It's time! The Fall Book Sale is this weekend! COBB LIBRARY BOOK SALE PRO TIPS -- share to help a friend 🙏

📚 How do you know it's Book Sale time? Look for the signs! Friday, October 16 through Sunday, October 18 at Cobb Civic Center.
📚 Book Sale can be overwhelming. Wear comfy shoes and stay hydrated.
📚 If you need help, look for a staff member or volunteer. They are friendly and happy to help! Look for the CCPL shirt!
📚 Don't go it alone. Grab an empty box for your treasures!
📚 Bring a friend (and have them bring an extra bag!)
📚 Sunday is BYOB day! Fill a box for a flat rate! (You must be able to bodily get your box to the parking lot.)
📚 When you're ready to go, a friendly staff member or volunteer will check you out. (We can accept cash, check, debit, Visa, and Mastercard.)
📚 If your car looks like this when you leave (full of books), you've had a successful Book Sale!

On display through the end of October at Switzer Library!

Founded in 2015 when aircraft welder Rick Cheney made the loop from hobbyist craftsperson to full time folk artist, Cool Metalz Studio specializes in one-of-a-kind metal and wood sculpture carvings.

Rick’s creations have been influenced by his experiences through his years of global traveling, especially his travels in South America. He has also found influence through his personal and extensive collection of eclectic books with topics ranging from world tapestries to abstract art to art of all decades.

Rick and his dearly departed sidekick, Yonah, visited locations across the metro Atlanta area on their hunt for found treasures. With his new sidekick, Ingo, he continues to travel locally seeking out metal pieces to incorporate in his fabrications.

All works on display are constructed of pieces that Rick welds together, carves, or cuts and then paints with layers of colors.

Rick’s creations are also on display at Wall to Wall Gallery in Cartersville, GA
