From Startups to Industry, Marion Is Ready to Help

Whether you are starting a home-based business, opening a storefront, expanding an existing company, or developing an industrial project, the City of Marion Economic Development Department is here to help.

We connect businesses with programs, information, and people who can help move an idea forward. Our statewide partners include:

• ASBTDC at ASU Mid-South – business planning, market research, training, and confidential consulting
• ARise Arkansas – coaching and resources for technology and technology-enabled startups
• Arkansas APEX Accelerator – guidance for businesses interested in government contracting
• AEDC Small Business & Entrepreneurship Development – statewide resources for entrepreneurs and small businesses

We are also strengthening our own knowledge and connections. Economic Development Director Beth Wilson is completing the PCED Exam in October, is part of the inaugural 75Strong cohort, and is preparing for the EDP exam in November. This work brings new tools, partnerships, and ideas back to Marion’s business community.

Good news! One of our boom trucks is back in service, and our Sanitation crew is working hard to catch up on large-debris pickups throughout Marion.

A special thank you to Crittenden County for stepping in and helping with pickups while our trucks were down. Their assistance has made a big difference in helping our crew get caught up.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and will continue to provide updates as we work to get the second truck back in service.

Labor Day Holiday Schedule

In observance of Labor Day on Monday, September 7, all City of Marion offices will be closed.

There will also be a change to the trash collection schedule:

Monday’s trash route will run with Tuesday’s route. All other routes will run on their regular schedule.

Please have your trash cart out by 6:00 a.m. on your scheduled service day.

Lane Closure Scheduled on Interstate 55 Bridge

The Interstate 55 (I-55) bridge over the Mississippi River is scheduled to have daily outside-lane closures in the northbound and southbound directions from Monday, August 31, through Thursday, September 17.

The southbound outside lane will be closed Monday through Thursday each week from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The northbound outside lane will be closed Monday through Thursday each week from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Only one direction will be closed at a time, beginning with I-55 southbound.

Weather permitting, the closures will allow crews to perform a routine bridge inspection.

Cones and signage will be in place to notify motorists of the closures.

🚛Boom Truck Service Update — Monday, August 31

We want to keep our residents informed as our Public Works team works through ongoing equipment issues.

As of today, Monday, August 31, both City of Marion boom trucks remain out of service while repairs are being completed.

We are very grateful to Crittenden County for stepping in to assist with large-debris pickups while our trucks are down. We greatly appreciate their partnership and willingness to help keep services moving for our residents.

We know many of you are waiting for debris to be collected, and we appreciate your continued patience. We will provide a daily update on the status of the boom trucks until they are back in service.

Thank you for your understanding—and a special thank you to Crittenden County for lending a hand when we needed it.

The City of Marion was proud to be represented at the 2026 Arkansas Economic Developers and Chamber Executives Annual Conference in Jonesboro.

Economic Development Director Beth Wilson participated in sessions focused on business recruitment, workforce development, data, leadership, and strategies for strengthening Arkansas communities.

A highlight of the conference was the post-conference luncheon with three site selectors. Beth had the opportunity to share Marion’s key advantages and provide each site selector with a jump drive containing information about our community and development opportunities.

Direct access to site-selection professionals is valuable because it allows Marion to build relationships, answer questions, and remain part of the conversation as future projects search for a location.

The conference also created opportunities to connect with economic development professionals from across Arkansas, CDI classmates, leadership cohort members, and partners, including the Arkansas Economic Development Commission and Union Pacific.

Marion continues to build the relationships and visibility needed to compete for new investment, jobs, and development.

🚆 A Major Week for Economic Development in Marion

This week, Mayor Tracy Brick and Economic Development Director Beth Wilson participated in several important conversations about the future of the Union Pacific Intermodal Yard and the economic opportunities it could create for our community.

The Union Pacific Intermodal Yard has been part of Marion for 25 years, connecting our community to national and global markets. Now, its next chapter could bring even greater opportunities.

On Monday, Mayor Brick and Beth met with Union Pacific representatives at the Greater Memphis Chamber.

On Tuesday, Mayor Brick and Beth attended the World Trade Club luncheon, where Ryan Steinbach, Union Pacific Assistant Vice President of Intermodal Sales, discussed the proposed merger between Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern. If approved, the merger would create America’s first coast-to-coast, single-line freight railroad.

Union Pacific representatives said the Marion Intermodal Yard could see up to a 60% increase in container volume. This growth could help open Marion’s industrial area to new distribution and manufacturing projects.

Today, Mayor Brick and Beth met with U.S. Senator John Boozman, State Representative Jessie McGruder, and Union Pacific Assistant Vice President for Public Affairs Clint Schelbitzki to discuss plans for the intermodal yard and the region.

The City of Marion has also begun discussions with Union Pacific about studies to identify the best solutions to improve safety as rail activity grows.

With access to rail, the Mississippi River, I-40 and I-55, and Memphis International Airport, Marion offers the connections modern industries need. These partnerships can bring new investment, quality jobs, and long-term growth to our entire region.
