Markesan AP Biology students Keaton and Lucas spent their day volunteering with the Little Green Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District. They were able to learn about lake management plans and assist with data collection on the lake and streams. It was a great real world learning opportunity!

We had a great start to the 2026 monitoring season on Little Green Lake!

A big thank you to volunteers Bob Strelow and Tim Simonson for lending their time and support in the field. Stephanie Cole and Korin Doering (GEI Consultants) led the monitoring effort to kick off this year’s sampling. Tim also volunteered to transport the water samples to the lab in Madison.

During the first monitoring day, the team:
Collected water quality samples from the deep hole in the center of the lake
Measured dissolved oxygen and temperature profiles at 11 in-lake locations
Sampled one tributary and the outlet stream
Confirmed the second tributary was dry at the time of monitoring

These early-season data are an important baseline for understanding lake conditions and tracking water quality trends throughout the year.
