Recently, our office had the opportunity to witness the outstanding community service work of Bishop Edward Jones IV and the members/volunteers of Grace Missionary Baptist Church.

Bishop Jones has a vision for the residents of the Southland and this event was a microcosm of a much greater mission.

Tables were filled with essential resources, including food, clothing, hygiene products, and household goods. There was one message “take whatever you need as much as you need “ and with that direction the church distributed more than 1,800 items to 437 households representing 38 zip codes less than four hours. 

This effort demonstrated the power of faith, service, and community working together to meet the needs of families across the region. Their commitment to helping others is making a meaningful difference, one household at a time.

Recently, our office attended the SDA Achieve Summit, an excellent opportunity to connect with businesses, developers, and community leaders who are invested in the future of the Southland.

The Southland is home to tremendous talent and opportunity, and the summit highlighted the power of collaboration in driving growth and investment across the region.

Congratulations to all of the ACHIEVE Award recipients. Your leadership and commitment are helping strengthen the Southland and build a more prosperous future for communities throughout the region.

GUN VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH EVENT

These are the faces of lives, lost to gun violence. Each fence represents some of the victims in that year. On this day tears of hurt and strength were illuminated by prayers, joy, laughs and hope for a brighter future for the community.

“Losing a loved one to gun violence impacts the family and the entire community. Losing one life to gun violence is one too many. The high frequency screech of a mother finding her child or seeing her child for the last time is one you will never forget.”

Recently, our office had the pleasure of joining Village of Phoenix Mayor Terry Wells and residents at the Phoenix Juneteenth Celebration. This was a community event honoring freedom, culture, and Black entrepreneurship. The event featured local vendors, community resources, activities for children, food, refreshments, and live entertainment.

The celebration brought neighbors together to support small businesses, build connections, and celebrate the rich diversity and contributions of the community. Commissioner McCaskill remains committed to uplifting local entrepreneurs and strengthening communities throughout the 5th District.

In honor of Gun Violence Awareness Month, Commissioner McCaskill stood with families who gathered to remember their loved ones lost to gun violence. Fences lined with the faces of victims, young and old served as powerful reminders of lives filled with hope, promise, love, and dreams gone far too soon.

Behind every life lost is a family seeking healing, a community carrying pain, and a future forever changed. On this day and every day, may we speak life over our selves, our homes, and our communities as we work together to build a safer, stronger, and more peaceful future for all.

TLOC MOBILE MENTAL HEALTH UNIT

Commissioner McCaskill and 5th District Summer Interns were honored to stand alongside elected officials, community stakeholders, residents, and healthcare professionals to congratulate Dr. Twin Green, the visionary founder of The Link & Option Center. Since inception, The Link & Option Center has worked to remove barriers to opportunity and empower youth and families through education, career development, and supportive services.

Today, that commitment continues through innovative services, including a state-of-the-art Mobile Mental Health Unit that brings critical behavioral health care directly into communities across the 5th District. TLOC’s comprehensive services continue to improve access to care, support families, and promote wellness. Congratulations to Dr. Twin Green on her visionary leadership and lasting impact on the lives of countless residents throughout Cook County.
