Spooky spirit was in full swing at MU today!

Our staff showed off their Halloween creativity with some fantastic costumes, and even took aim at a moving HR target to raise funds for the Marshfield Area United Way’s Nutrition on Weekends (N.O.W.) program.

It was all treats, no tricks, and a fun way to support a great local cause!

Protecting wells today means clean, affordable water tomorrow.

When groundwater becomes contaminated, cleanup can be expensive, sometimes costing entire communities hundreds of thousands of dollars.

For example, PFAS contamination doesn't occur naturally. While we couldn't pinpoint a specific source that contaminated some of our wells, it cost $1.5 million for our temporary treatment facility.

Well-head protection is a smart investment that keeps our drinking water safe, reliable, and affordable for everyone.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a perfect time to protect your personal information starting with your passwords! Strong passwords are your first line of defense against hackers and scams.

Here are a few quick tips to stay secure:
✅ Use at least 12 characters (longer = stronger)
✅ Mix uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols
✅ Avoid personal info like birthdays or pet names
✅ Use unique passwords for each account

Ever thought about who designs the future of power? Engineers in the energy industry are the visionaries behind the scenes—turning ideas into reality and keeping our power systems reliable, resilient, and ready for what’s next.

At our utility, engineers:

🧰Design efficient systems to deliver power and water safely

🧰Optimize the infrastructure that keeps our community running

🧰Innovate with the latest technology to meet future energy needs

🧰Collaborate across teams to ensure every switch, wire, and pipeline is engineered for safety and sustainability

Whether it’s improving grid reliability, integrating renewable energy, or enhancing our community’s water systems, our engineers are at the heart of it.

Join us this week in thanking our engineers—not just for what they do today, but for what they’re building for tomorrow.

What Is Well-Head Protection?

Our wells draw water from underground, and well-head protection is how we keep that water safe before it reaches your tap. It means protecting the land around our wells, the area where rain and snow soak into the ground and feed our water supply.

Marshfield Utilities takes well-head protection very seriously. We maintain 15 wells and own hundreds of acres dedicated to safeguarding them. These protected areas aren’t just within city limits, they also extend into multiple rural areas where groundwater naturally recharges our wells.

When we protect that land, we protect our water. Learn what you can do at https://bit.ly/WIDNR-groundwater-protection

Powering Progress—One Line at a Time

The electric power industry is the most capital-intensive industry in the U.S., investing more than $120 billion each year to build a smarter, cleaner, and more resilient energy future. But behind every pole, wire, and light that comes on—you’ll find a dedicated lineworker making it happen.

Lineworkers are the backbone of our electric utility. They brave the elements, climb great heights, and work around the clock to keep power flowing safely and reliably to our community.

This Careers in Energy Week, we celebrate the skill, strength, and commitment of our lineworkers who make reliable energy possible every single day.

Is your home trying to tell you something?

Electrical shorts can be dangerous—but they often give warning signs before bigger problems start. Watch for:

🚩 Flickering or dimming lights
🚩 Outlets that feel warm or look discolored
🚩 Frequently tripped breakers
🚩 Buzzing sounds or burning smells near outlets or switches

If you notice any of these, unplug affected devices and contact a licensed electrician right away. Staying alert helps keep your home safe from potential electrical fires.
