Today we had a great time bringing a little bit of Dr. Seuss magic to the K–2 students in Waterville! 🎩📚

The Cat in the Hat showed up with Thing 1 and Thing 2, along with their special guest, dispatcher Tim Jones, to read a classic story and share plenty of laughs along the way. Seeing the smiles, laughter, and excitement from the kids made it all worth it.

We had an absolute blast entertaining the students and celebrating the fun of reading with them. Thank you to the teachers and staff for welcoming our crew — we hope the kids enjoyed it as much as we did!

Encouraging young readers and sharing a few laughs is always a great way to spend the morning.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office continues to demonstrate its commitment to professional excellence and community care through advanced training and development opportunities for its staff.

Recently, Undersheriff Christopher Flood, Correctional Administrator Logan Woodyard, and Correctional Sergeant Shawn Lambert successfully completed the 3-day professional development course, *From Crisis to Care – Effective Management in Correctional Settings*. This specialized training focused on strengthening the ability of correctional staff to identify, understand, and effectively respond to detainees experiencing mental health crisis.

Throughout the course, the officers gained valuable, practical skills in communication, de-escalation strategies, and crisis intervention techniques. These tools are critical in reducing use-of-force incidents, minimizing staff injuries, and improving outcomes for individuals in crisis. By enhancing their understanding of mental health challenges within a correctional environment, they are better equipped to maintain safety while treating individuals with professionalism and dignity.

The knowledge and experience brought back from this training directly benefit the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the community it serves. Investing in crisis management education not only strengthens facility operations but also reflects a proactive approach to inmate care, staff safety, and public trust.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Sheriff Timothy Ackerman for supporting and allowing us the opportunity to pursue this important training. His leadership and commitment to continuous improvement ensure that our office remains prepared to meet the evolving needs of our community with skill, compassion, and professionalism.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office is looking for the owners of a cow calf pair. This pair was found about two months ago in a herd it didn't belong to. The pair were located 1 1/2 miles west and south of the K99 and Dogwood Lane in Marshall County. This is close to the Potawatomi County Line. Cow has brands and scaring but the calf has no brands. Brands are not registered with the State of Kansas. Calf appears to be around 500 to 600 pounds. The cow and calf do have matching ear tags. Owner must identify tag number. This pair will be held for two weeks, ending on January 14th. If the owner doesn't claim them, they will be sold to the highest bidder on January 15th at the Marysville Sale Barn in Marysville. You can inquire about the cow and calf by calling the Marshall County Sheriff Tim Ackerman at 785-562-3141

Beginning October 1st, Deputy uniforms will undergo a slight change. With help from our friends at Jane Elaine Boutique, we will be showing our support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Deputies will wear these patches during the month of October to honor those who have fought and continue to fight this terrible disease. If you see us and wish to share your story or express your support, please don't hesitate to do so.
