This weekend the roaring 20s and prohibition come alive in Matawan! The walking tours for Friday evening are sold out, but there are a few spots available for Saturday at 11 AM and 5 PM.

The play, Mayham in Matawan, will be performed at Lake Lefferts on Ravine Drive, at 2 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, June 3. The play is free. Please bring a blanket or a chair as the audience will be sitting on the lawn. There is parking across the street from the lake, and also parking uptown.

A broad cross-section of our town is in this play. It will be introduced by Mayor Joseph Altomonte.

This is an original play, with true stories and characters from our towns history during prohibition.

The Woman's Club of Matawan will be hosting a BINGO PARTY on Thursday, December 8 at 10:30 A.M. at the Clubhouse at 199 Jackson Street. The tickets are $10 per person. The event will begin with coffee and crumb cake in the morning, and include a hot dog, beverage and dessert mid way through play. The event will conclude about 2:30 P.M. One playing card is provided and others will be available for $1 per card. There will be NO cash prizes BUT fun gifts will be awarded to winners.

As you may know, many people involved in the Matawan shark attacks in 1916 are buried in Rose Hill Cemetery.

In July the Matawan Historical Society, along with the Matawan Chamber of Commerce, the Matawan-Aberdeen Public Library and the Woman's Club of Matawan are planning a series of events to commemorate this tragic event and to celebrate the heros of the time. July 12, 2016 will mark 100 years since the famous Matawan Shark Attack. Two of the victims are buried in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The Matawan Historical Society is planning a series of events to commemorate this event, spanning from Saturday, July 9 to Sunday, July 17. Please go to their page to see what is planned.

This Sunday, December 6 from 1PM to 4 PM is the annual Christmas Musicale at the Burrowes Mansion Museum, 94 Main Street, Matawan. The Burrowes Mansion is decorated for Christmas and ready to welcome visitors and friends alike. We will have music and home made tasty treats to eat. The event is free and open to all. On Sunday, November 8 at 2 PM there will be a terrific talk on what Matawan was like during World War II. The event is being sponsored by the Matawan American Legion Post 176. The speaker will be the Matawan Town Historian Al Savolaine. The talk will take place at the Woman's Club of Matawan at 199 Jackson Street. The Woman's Club will be providing refreshments.

Come join us to hear an excellent speaker share with us what he has "dug up" about Matawan and World War II; what it was like here, what people did, and how Matawan supported the war effort.
What he has learned will AMAZE you about Matawan.

The FIFTH annual GHOST HUNT at the Burrowes Mansion Museum at 94 Main Street is this Saturday night, October 24. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Details on how to purchase tickets are given at the Burrowes Mansion Museum page.
The ghost hunt includes training by a paranormal investigator, an investigation of the entire house, including the attic, and light refreshments.

Please note this update to the posting below regarding the Fifth Annual Rose Hill Cemetery walking tours, scheduled for October 17 at 2 PM and October 18 at 2 PM. Tickets for young children are free but tickets for children over the age of 12 are $5. Also please note that all proceeds go to the preservation of the Rose Hill Cemetery and all participants in the event are volunteers.

The 5th Annual Rose Hill Cemetery tours have been scheduled for 2015! They will be on Saturday, October 17th at 2-4 PM and Sunday, October 18th from 2-4 PM. Please note there are no morning tours this year. Your tour guide will again be Al Savolaine, the Rose Hill Cemetery Historian, and Matawan Town Historian. Al has included several new features to the 2015 tours. If you have been on the tour before, join us again as there is always something new to learn about Matawan and its inhabitants. If this is your first tour-you are in for a treat!!
The tours are $10 for adults, children are free. Tickets can be purchased on the days of the tours at a table set up near the front of the cemetery. Parking is available in the cemetery, on Ravine Drive, and at the Ravine Drive school lot.

It is time to schedule the FOURTH annual Rose Hill Cemetery Tour!!

There will be two tours given this year: Saturday, October 18 at 11:00 A.M. and Sunday, October 19 at 2:00 P.M. Tickets are $10. All proceeds go to Rose Hill Cemetery and the Matawan Historical Society. Parking is across the street at the Ravine Drive School.

These tours have been a big success. We encourage you to come join us for some very interesting stories about the people who are buried at Rose Hill Cemetery. It is amazing what has gone on in this area!

If you are interested in purchasing a grave blanket for your loved one buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, please mail a check for $30 along with the plot number /location and family /individual name, to Rose Hill Cemetery Company, P.O.Box 279, Middletown, NJ 07748. Please do so no later than December 6th. We will place and remove the grave blankets for you.

Don't forget---this Sunday is the last of the three guided walking tours of Rose Hill Cemetery! It is this Sunday, 10/27 at 2PM. Tickets are $10. Parking is across the street at the elementary school or in the cemetery. All proceeds go to the beautification of the cemetery and restoration projects for the Burrowes Mansion.

Don't forget, this weekend is the third annual Rose Hill Cemetery guided walking tour. The tours will be Saturday, October 19th at 10 AM and Sunday October 20th at 2 PM. There will be another tour next weekend Sunday October 27th at 2 PM.

Tickets are $10 and are available at the tour table inside the cemetery on the day of the tour. Parking is either in the cemetery or across the street at the elementary school.

We have scheduled the cemetery tours for 2013. There will be three this year. They are
Saturday, Oct 19th at 10 AM; Sunday October 20th at 2 PM; Sunday Oct 27th at 2 PM. The cost is $10 per person. Tickets will be available at the event. Proceeds will benefit the Burrowes Mansion construction projects and Cemetery beautification.
Parking is available in the cemetery and in the school lot across the street.
