Buzzards Bay Action Committee

Buzzards Bay Action Committee Non-profit municipal committee which meets to discuss environmental topics which are relevant to the health of Buzzards Bay. The Buzzards Bay Action Committee or "BBAC" is a not-for-profit organization, composed of municipal officials, which is involved with state, local, and federal legislative and regulatory issues.

The BBAC also helps guide state and federal agencies as to the needs of Buzzards Bay municipalities in better protecting the environment. The primary goal of the BBAC, like the other two Buzzards Bay focused organizations, is the implementation of the Buzzards Bay Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan that was approved by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the US EPA in 1991. Michael Gagne, who has been with the BBAC since it’s inception in 1991, is retiring. Today he was presented with a copy of the original CCMP document and a certificate of appreciation by Norm Hills, new BBAC president, and Mike O’Reilly, who has been with the organization for two decades. At the May 23rd meeting of the BBAC the committee presented certificates of appreciation to Ann Rodney of EPA Region 1 and Tracy Warnke of the Buzzards Bay National Estuary Program. Each have spent over thirty years helping the communities to keep Buzzards Bay clean and healthy. Mike Gagne, long time BBAC delegate and current BBAC president, presented the certificates on behalf of BBAC.

On October 25, 2018 the BBAC welcomed Gary Carreiro of the Bristol County Radio Control Club and Detective Gary Barboza of the Fall River Police Department. Mr. Carreiro and Detective Barboza spoke about the many potential uses of drones by municipalities including fire departments, conservation work, public works departments among many other uses. The BBAC had a chance to take a look at several types of drones, and watch one in action over the Marion Police Station.

On Thursday June 28 the BBAC delegates met with Joy Duperault, Director of Flood Hazard Management, State NFIP Coordinator & Deputy Hazards Mitigation Officer - Dept. of Conservation & Recreation. Ms. Duperault spoke about Governor Baker's Executive Order 568 addressing climate change and Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness. She also spoke about grant monies available once a community becomes MVP certified.

On April 20, 2013 the Buzzards Bay Action Committee held an Earth Day event. Events held during the day included a bird walk, lectures on composting, geocaching and organic lawn care, and live music was provided by the band “Green Season”. The event was held at the Fairhaven Recreation Center.
