Maxwelton Ruritan Club

Maxwelton Ruritan Club The Maxwelton Ruritan Club is a community service organization located in Maxwelton, WV. The Maxwelton Ruritan Club was chartered in 1953.

Most people recognize our Ice Cream Concession Stand at the WV State Fair where we volunteer every August. All proceeds from the ice cream sales go back into our local community. We donate to Penny Pitch, Red Cross, Shop With A Cop, Family Refuge Center, 4-H Clubs, CYAC, and local Boy Scouts. We also give two scholarships to deserving high school seniors. Our club is responsible for road-clean up

along 219 North with the Adopt A Highway program, and projects you know should be undertaken in our community but we have not thought of them.

Volunteering with us today were cadets from The Greenbrier Composite Squadron of Civil Air Patrol! Lee and Bill report that these cadets did an outstanding job! Someone asked, “Does your Ruritan club do more than sell ice cream every August?”. Well, we’re glad that you asked! Part 2:
We told you about Adopt A Highway, but one of our favorite projects has been redoing and maintaining the flower beds at the Maxwelton Post office! When we started the bushes had grown over the name on the front and the beds were full of weeds. A few hours and a couple of Saturdays later made a huge difference.
We also maintain the flower bed at the Greenbrier 911 Center.

Someone asked, “Does your Ruritan club do more than sell ice cream every August?”. Well, we’re glad that you asked! One of our projects twice a year is participating with the WV Adopt A Highway. We pick up trash along Route 219 North, totaling 10-20 bags each time. It’s amazing the items we find that people throw out of their car windows. We still haven’t figured out how they got the tire out the window🤷‍♀️

Rotary + Ruritan = Two organizations working together to make our communities a better place! We would like to thank the Lewisburg Rotary Club for volunteering with us yesterday!
