✨ Ramadan begins the evening of Friday, February 28th - Saturday, March 29th.

LAUSD sends heartfelt wishes of peace, reflection, and joy to all Muslim students, families, and staff as we welcome the holy month of Ramadan. This sacred time is a beautiful opportunity for spiritual growth, community connection, and giving back.

We are proud to support and celebrate the diverse traditions that enrich our school community. Wishing you all a blessed Ramadan filled with compassion, kindness, and unity.

Today, I visited another set of Lion scholars at Wadsworth Ave Elementary School! 🦁 It was great to meet Principal Jenny Guzman, her AP Ms. Estrada, PSW Ms. Acosta and so many more!

I visited lots of classrooms and got a glimpse of the strong sense of community that exists at this school. There’s lots of additions being made such as murals and our favorite, a grass field! Students, families and staff are so excited about the beautification that’s being done here at Wadsworth Elementary. 🌱🎨✨

I stopped by the Conga Kids and got to check out their moves! 💃🕺 Wadsworth has an abundance of clubs that our students love. Thank you, Principal Guzman, for providing our students with the arts they need to be both academically and emotionally successful.

We can’t wait to be back – Keep being great, Lions! 💫

Celebrate by teaching local Los Angeles Black History. Today we’re sharing a lesson in which students learn about the history of South Central LA, a neighborhood in which African-Americans created vibrant and world-famous cultural spaces, in defiance of racist discrimination. Quincy Jones once famously remarked, “I didn’t know where Sunset Boulevard was when I moved to L.A., but sure I knew Central.” Students will learn about this history and the factors that led to the development of this important historic neighborhood, by answering the inquiry question using primary source documents. Started off my morning at Ricardo Lizarraga Elementary School. 💛💙 Principal Montano and her amazing staff have been hard at work all year. It was great to see the collaborative effort within staff to ensure their students succeed!

Students and I were very excited to watch the Futo Tora West African Dancers presentation in honor of Black History Month!

Today, I visited Heliotrope Ave Elementary School and I had a wonderful visit!

Principal Gabriela Rodriguez has created an amazing educational environment where students have flourished both academically and mentally. 🦋 I was excited to hear about all the wonderful programs that are in place like AEMP, the Academic English Mastery Program. This program is designed to address the language and literacy needs of African American, Mexican American, Hawaiian American, and American Indian students for whom Standard English is not native. It’s incredible to see the amazing things Heliotrope is doing around this program.

They also have many up and coming programs that this community is going to love! I can’t wait to see the great things Heliotrope Elementary accomplishes✨
