Thank you to Sheriff Wally Jones , Chief Deputy Damian Gatlin, and Deputy Brian Mullins for meeting with me this morning.
We are facing an enormous challenge with youth-involved gun violence in District One. Based on the data, Burgland, East McComb, and White Acres account for the highest percentage of violent crime and homicides in our county. Nearly all of it is concentrated in the communities I represent.
This MUST stop.
But we cannot address it in silos. Law enforcement cannot do it alone. Elected officials cannot do it alone. Families cannot do it alone. This requires a unified, community-wide response.
I will be honest. Confronting this gun violence epidemic will not be easy. It will require discipline, coordination, and difficult decisions. In today’s meeting, we outlined a series of aggressive yet practical strategies focused not just on changing perception, but on deterring violence and holding offenders accountable. The future we want for our neighborhoods looks very different from the reality we are currently facing, and closing that gap will take intentional action.
This effort will require unorthodox thinking, stronger partnerships, and meaningful community involvement.
As your County Supervisor, I carry the weight of grieving families and traumatized neighborhoods. I refuse to sit back and allow reckless behavior to define our city and county, or intimidate our residents. We are committed to restoring order and protecting our communities.
I look forward to working closely with the City of McComb and the McComb Police Department as we move forward. The work cannot be about personalities or politics. It must be about people.
I will ask for partnership, but I will NOT ask for permission to protect lives. It is my responsibility, and I am fully and faithfully committed to using the authority entrusted to me to combat this violence and reclaim our neighborhoods.
I ask for your prayers, your engagement, and your partnership as we do this work together.
