Good day Retirees. This is an announcement for retired 184th civil service technicians who retired under the old Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS).
As part of the recently passed Social Security Fairness Act (SSFA), retired CSRS technicians who fall under the WEP/GPO rules for receiving Social Security payments will be seeing changes in their monthly Social Security payouts. This affects a significant number of 184th retired technicians.
The Act removed the the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) /Government Pension Offset (GPO) rule for CSRS retirees. This means that SSA will have refigure our monthly SSA payouts without the reductions. Most of us will probably see our monthly SSA increase because of it.
The Act was passed by Congress and signed by President Biden on January 6th, however SSA will need time to implement the changes. And we all know that it will probably take more time than we think they'll need :)
Social Security has published an SSFA announcement on the login page of their website that you'll need to read and heed. Also the National Active & Retired Federal Employees organization (NARFE) has information on their website and will be tracking SSA's implementation progress. We've included a link to NARFEs website explaining the Act and what should happen. A big THANKS to Karen Morrow for providing the link.
As always patience is key here. These two links should be able to keep you informed as to the progress. If not let us know and we'll try to help you.
Happy New Year & Cheers!
