Thanks to High Plains Radio and the McCook Gazette for sponsoring the candidates’ forum on Tuesday evening. It was informative and well received.

Our office is in the midst of early voting. Since it began last Monday, nearly 100 people have come to vote. My wonderful staff are well-trained to assist voters, choosing the correct ballot type and answering questions about voting.

The Primary Election is on May 12th this year, and prior to that date we must reserve space for 13 precincts to set up for voters. We are so lucky here in Red Willow County; most of our polling places save the date and room for us each election. The only change this year is that instead of voters going to the McCook Community College Student Union, they will vote at the beautiful MCC East Campus, formerly the Elks Club.

By statute, I am also required to train the 65 dedicated poll workers on new election laws, required forms and procedures that may have changed. There are a few significant changes this election, and I anticipate more for November.

Our office is also in the second month of a new payroll and accounts payable system. As County employees know, the first month revealed several flaws that have since been rectified. This new system is very convenient as the payroll and accounts payable systems communicate to compute payroll taxes, retirement, etc. They are also tied to the new budget system, a huge help.

Our updated County website was scheduled to roll out today, but I have postponed it to May 22, after the election. When it is active, take time to view it; I hope everyone likes it as much as I do.
