Strategic growth requires regional collaboration! 🤝 I am here right now at the Henry County Executive Roundtable, engaging with leaders from across the metro area.

For McDonough to thrive, we must prioritize responsible economic growth and safe, efficient mobility across all of our neighborhoods. By fostering strong partnerships between city, county, and state agencies, we can secure the vital investments needed to upgrade our roads, support local businesses, and improve the daily quality of life for every working family in District 4.

🎉 Celebrating Local Innovation & Youth Development in McDonough!

It is incredible to see our residents taking action to strengthen our community. A huge shoutout to local mom Chivon Carter for founding Community Co., a new early childhood center right here on the South Side!

Community Co. offers an innovative, play-based learning environment for our children while providing a coworking space to keep parents connected. This is a perfect example of community-based solutions and responsible economic growth, building a true village that supports our working families and empowers our youth.

🎆 Red, White, and Tunes: Celebrating America’s 250th in McDonough!

Mark your calendars, McDonough! I am thrilled to invite all of our District 4 families, neighbors, and friends to an incredible community celebration right here in our city.

On Saturday, July 11, 2026, we will be gathering at Avalon Park for Red, White and Tunes to celebrate a massive milestone, 250 years of America! 🇺🇸✨

As your Councilman, one of my top priorities is encouraging responsible economic growth and local partnerships while providing safe, vibrant recreational spaces where our families and youth can thrive. This event does exactly that by bringing together local vendors, spectacular entertainment, and our wonderful community.

🎸 What to Expect:
Live Band: Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy fantastic live music.

Food Trucks: Support excellent food vendors and local flavor.

Family Entertainment: Fun activities for all ages to enjoy together.

Drone Show: Stick around until the end—a spectacular drone light show kicks off right at dark! 🌌🛸

RESIDENTIAL NOTICE: NEW BULK WASTE SCHEDULE BEGINS JULY 6, 2026

Starting Monday, July 6, 2026, City of McDonough residents have two easy options to dispose of large household items like furniture and appliances:

1. Drop It Off Yourself
• Where: 560 Macon Street (the old Mercer Building)
• When: 1st & 3rd Saturday of every month, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. (Closed for lunch 11:45 a.m.–1:15 p.m.)
• Available for City of McDonough residential customers only.

2. Pick-Up at Your Home
• What: Up to three (3) items per week, collected on your regular trash day.
• Requirement: You must call City Hall first to let staff know what you are setting out.
• Call to Schedule: (770) 957-3915

Accepted Items: Stoves, washing machines, refrigerators (CFCs/refrigerants must be removed), furniture, and water heaters. Construction debris and hazardous waste are not accepted.

Due to incoming inclement weather, Mayor Kamali "Kam" Varner has officially postponed the District 4 Town Hall meeting that was originally scheduled for tonight, Thursday, June 18th.

Your safety is our absolute priority, and we want to ensure everyone stays off the roads and out of harm's way during the storm.

🗓️ Holiday Notice: Juneteenth Office Closures

In observance of Juneteenth, City of McDonough administrative offices will be closed on Friday, June 19, 2026.

Please note the following service schedules to help plan your week:

🏢 City Offices: Closed Friday, June 19th. Regular business hours will resume on Monday, June 22nd.

🚛 Sanitation Schedule: There will be no sanitation pickup on Friday, June 19th. Friday's routes will be collected on Saturday, June 20th.

As we observe this historic day of freedom and reflection, I wish all of our District 4 families a safe, meaningful, and happy Juneteenth weekend!
