Weather warnings are all showing high winds, rain, and a possibility of tornadoes. It is important to remind everyone to call 9-1-1 to report any emergencies, if you come across a down power line, turn around and please report it. Be cautious of trees and debris in the roadway and if possible STAY HOME! If a watch is issued stay away from doors and windows, and find cover in the safety of your home. Have a plan. And be safe.

Also during these types of heightened weather alerts, know that the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch can get extremely busy with emergency and non emergency calls, be patient and remember that 90% of the departments in county are volunteer, and there is possibly only 2, maybe 3 deputies in county at any given time time. Know that you are important, but high priority calls will be handled prior to low priority agendas. Thank you to everyone for your support, and thank you to our amazing dispatch staff that are the unseen guardians!

McGuffey fire is proud of this dispatch team and we commend them as well on an excellent job!

Answering the call!

These ladies had no idea what their shift was going to be like when they sat down at their consoles on Friday, March 14th, 2025.

They came on shift at 3pm that day and had a working ditch fire on Township Road 92 that started around noon. Several resources from the West side of the county were deployed to help control the blaze. 6 fire Departments and 2 EMS agencies assisted on this fire and it was contained and cleared just before 5pm.

Shortly after shift change, Dispatchers Wood (right) and Culver (left) got a call for a field fire where more than 70 round bales of hay were on fire. This was about 5 miles away from the first fire and with many fire units already busy, Dispatchers Wood, Culver and Communications Coordinator Emily Roy (middle) had to call for resources from other counties while waiting for more local resources to divert from the first fire. This fire required response from 13 Fire Departments and the scene was wrapped up just before 1030pm.

At just before 4pm (less than an hour after the hay fire) a grass fire came in on State Route 385, just outside of Roundhead. Resources from the majority of Hardin County were tied up with other scenes, but one was able to break free and with some assistance from a department to the South, the scene was quickly under control and wrapped up at 455pm. This scene was handled with response from 2 fire departments.

At 1634, another fire was called in-a garage attached to a residence. Several out of county resources were called for right away, as local resources were freed up from the hay bale fire. Luckily all occupants and pets made it out of the residence unharmed! This fire required a response from 6 fire departments and concluded at just after 1030pm.

These ladies kept their cool, worked quickly and tirelessly keeping accountability of resources during these stressful situations, all while regular incidents and phone calls were still happening.

We are SO proud to have you working with us!

The McGuffey Volunteer Fire Company is currently on an active hay bale fire. This has been a large undertaking requiring Departments from all over Hardin, Logan, Allen, and Auglaize counties. We would like to take the time to thank Annie and all volunteers that have showed up with equipment or firefighters that showed up on their free time to assist with this fire. Let this also be a reminder that open burning during this time of year is prohibited(see attached reminder from the Ohio fire marshal).

Congratulations Sheriff! McGuffey fire and it’s members have you and LT. Rob Lutes in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery!

Good Sunday morning to all. I wanted to give an update personally to all of you back home. My recovery is going very well. I am ahead of schedule according to the team here. My new kidney is waking up and starting to work as it should.
I cannot express my gratitude enough for all of the support, prayers and thoughts you have given. My family and I are humbled beyond belief and a simple thank you just doesn’t seem to be enough but for now that’s all I can say. Thank You!!!!
I have to say that this journey has been handled by the great Lord above. I am here and blessed beyond belief because of Him. He has lead me through this and will continue to lead me through my journey in life. All praises to Him for his salvation and love.
While I have you I would like to ask for your prayers for Kenton Police Dept Lt Rob Lutes. Rob has been going through a major medical issue far worse than me and I simply ask for your prayers and any support you can show towards him and his family. I pray for him and know that he will come out of this stronger than ever.
Have a great day and may God bless all of you.

Sheriff Keith

❗️ ATTENTION❗️ It is that time of year again, Grass and Wildland fires have already been popping up in our district and surrounding districts, with that being said, we understand that farmers in the area have been burning for agricultural purposes. Although it is not advised to burn during this time due to the heat, humidity, and wind we understand we cannot control it. Therefor if you are going to start a controlled burn, please notify Hardin County Dispatch at 419-673-1268.

Please provide-

Time:(start and end)
Exact location: address or nearby intersection
And who will be tending to it.

If we are dispatched to a controlled burn that is not attended to or is unsafe, it will be extinguished.

Please if there are questions, forward them to our messenger and we will try to help.

Thank you all in advance! And know that we are proud to serve you at a moments notice!
