Flood Brothers Disposal's yard waste curbside collection program for 2026 begins on Monday, April 6th on the resident's regular refuse and recycling collection day. This program concludes for the year the week of December 7th.

Flood Brothers will complete the suspended 2025 zoned leaf vacuuming program by passing through every residential property once throughout a 1-week period in each zone. All leaf piles must be placed within 4 feet of the roadway edge or curbing by 7:00 a.m. on the Monday of the zone collection week.

Collection Weeks:
🍂April 6th - Zone 2
🍂April 13th - Zone 1

Please keep leaf piles at least three feet away from other objects, such as mailboxes, signposts, garbage cans, etc. This service is performed utilizing trucks with specially designed vacuum equipment. Leaf piles must be free of brush/branches/rocks as this damages the equipment. Do not place leaf piles on the pavement or in drainage ditches. Cars cannot be parked in the roadway when these collections are being made. Clear access to the curb line or roadside must be maintained in order to properly collect the leaves.

Spring programs are starting back up!
Next week is Flood Brothers e-waste collection. Flood Brothers will remove e-waste at the curb on the resident’s regular refuse pick-up day the week of March 16th through 20th, 2026.

Residents are limited to five (5) electronic items per pick-up. Out of those five (5) items, only one (1) may be a television or one (1) computer monitor.

ACCEPTABLE ITEMS:
1 television or 1 computer monitor
Any type of telephone
Cameras
CD players, MP3 players, stereos
Computer drives, mice, keyboards
Fax machines
Holiday lights
Paper shredders
Printers without ink
VCRs
Video games and players
Microwave ovens
Small household appliances

2026 Tree Trimming & Pruning Operations

The City of McHenry has contracted with Advanced Tree Care Inc. to perform tree trimming and pruning work in City rights-of-way and parks. On an annual basis, up to 1,000 City trees are trimmed to maintain crown clearances for both vehicles and pedestrians. This work is anticipated to begin on Monday, January 26th, 2026.

Cold Weather Alert – Protect Your Water Pipes!

With temperatures dropping, the risk of frozen and bursting pipes goes up. Staying prepared now can help prevent emergencies later. These essential winter tips can help protect your home and business:
✳️The Trickle Method – Let a small trickle of water run from your faucets. Keep water moving to help prevent a pipe from bursting. It’s much cheaper than a plumbing repair!
✳️Circulate Warm Air – Open cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls to allow room heat to reach the pipes. Keep thermostats set to at least 55°F, even if you’re away.
✳️Insulate – Use pipe sleeves or heat tape on exposed pipes in unheated areas like basements and crawlspaces.
✳️Know Your Home – Locate where your main inside water shutoff valve is in case of an emergency and make sure all outdoor hoses are disconnected and drained.
✳️If you suspect a frozen pipe, do not use open flames to thaw it. Use warm air, possibly from a hair dryer on a low heat setting.
