On July 18, 2026, Detention Officers Jackson and Stopinski responded to an inmate in the Collin County Detention Facility who was experiencing a serious medical emergency following a self-harm attempt.

Recognizing the immediate danger, both officers acted quickly and decisively to intervene and restore the inmate’s ability to breathe. Their actions directly saved the individual’s life.

For their quick response and meritorious conduct, Detention Officers Jackson and Stopinski were each presented with the Collin County Sheriff’s Office Life Saving Award.

🕊️ DOVE SEASON OPENS TOMORROW, SEPTEMBER 1

With dove season opening tomorrow, residents in rural and unincorporated areas of Collin County may notice an increase in the sound of gunfire, particularly during the early morning and evening hours.

In many cases, those sounds may simply be hunters lawfully participating in dove season on private property. Hearing gunfire alone does not necessarily mean a crime or dangerous situation is occurring.

However, if you see or hear circumstances that lead you to believe someone is in danger, shots are being fired recklessly, or criminal activity may be occurring, please contact law enforcement.

Hunters are reminded to know and follow all applicable hunting regulations and restricted-area requirements, respect property boundaries, know what is beyond their target, and handle fi****ms safely and responsibly.

Texas, we sure could use some rain! 🌧️

A 90-day outdoor burn ban has been issued for unincorporated Collin County.

The Collin County Commissioners' Court approved the burn ban due to extremely dry conditions in rural areas. The ban will remain in effect for 90 days unless the Texas Forest Service or the Commissioners' Court determines that it is no longer necessary.

The order does not prohibit TCEQ-authorized burns for firefighter training, public utility, pipeline, mining operations, or qualifying prescribed burns.

Please use extra caution and help us prevent fires while these dry conditions continue.

Changes to Public Affairs and Community Outreach Services

I am extremely disappointed to announce the cancellation of this year's Collin County Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy, which was scheduled to begin this week.

Last week, during the FY2027 Budget Workshop, the Collin County Commissioners Court voted to eliminate Sgt. Jessica Pond's position. Sgt. Pond serves as the Sheriff's Office's Public Information/Public Affairs Sergeant and plays a critical role in overseeing Public Information, Public Affairs, community engagement, crime prevention, public education, and the coordination of community events and presentations.

I have sought clarification from Commissioners Court regarding the operational impact of this personnel reduction, including how my office is expected to handle public information and media requests and continue providing important community-facing services. At this time, I have not received a response.

Because Citizens Academy Class 30 is scheduled to run from August through November, and the position responsible for coordinating and administering the program will be eliminated effective October 1, I do not believe it would be responsible to begin a new Academy without knowing how the program would be supported through its completion.

The Citizens Academy has been a longstanding and valued tradition of the Collin County Sheriff's Office, and we are extremely proud of the program. Our supervisors and employees take great pride in sharing their expertise through detailed, hands-on presentations that give participants a firsthand understanding of our operations and the services we provide.

The Academy provides citizens with an opportunity to better understand the work of the Sheriff's Office, meet the men and women who serve their community, ask questions, and gain insight into the many different functions of our agency.

It is deeply disappointing to cancel a program that has meant so much to our Office and to reduce community engagement services that have built relationships throughout Collin County for many years. I sincerely hope we will be able to restore this important tradition in the future.

🎓 Another GED Earned!

We’re proud to celebrate another individual who has earned his GED while in the custody of the Collin County Sheriff’s Office!

We believe the time individuals spend in our care can be more than simply waiting for release. Whenever possible, it should be an opportunity for education, growth, rehabilitation, and positive change.

This graduate is already looking ahead. Upon release, he plans to continue his education by attending college and working toward a bachelor’s degree.

That matters. Education and employment opportunities are important pieces of successful reentry. Helping individuals build skills and earn credentials can create better opportunities when they return home, reduce the likelihood of returning to jail, and contribute to safer, stronger communities.

Celebrating this achievement alongside our graduate are Programs Officer Pope, Inmate Program Coordinator Amy Larson, and GED volunteers Phil, Joan, and Sam, whose time and dedication help make these opportunities possible.

👏 Congratulations to our GED recipient! We are proud of the work you put in to reach this milestone and wish you continued success as you take the next step toward your future.

Statement Regarding August 14 Warrant Service in Princeton

On Friday, August 14, 2026, Collin County Sheriff’s deputies served a felony arrest warrant for Sexual Assault of a Child in Princeton at the request of the Princeton Police Department.

Prior to serving the warrant, deputies conducted surveillance of the residence and surrounding area for approximately 30 to 40 minutes. During that time, deputies observed a small white dog loose and running in the neighborhood. The dog belonged to a neighboring residence and was observed prior to deputies approaching or entering the house where the warrant was served.

During the surveillance, deputies observed individuals searching for the dog and provided them with the direction in which deputies had last seen the dog running.

Deputies then served the warrant and took Issac Harris into custody on the warrant above. During the arrest, Trevon Harrison was also arrested for Interference with Public Duties after attempting to interfere with deputies as Harris was taken into custody.

The Sheriff’s Office later learned, through social media reports, that the dog they had seen in the neighborhood had been struck and killed by a vehicle.

We understand that the loss of a precious family pet is traumatic and very difficult. We wish to convey our condolences to the dog’s owner and family over the loss of their little companion.
