I was proud to join American Legion Post 270 in honoring the countless brave men and women who served our country.

Take a moment to reflect and be grateful for those who have laid down their time, health, physical well-being and sometimes even their very lives.🇺🇸 #VeteransDay

10/20/2020

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors just honored the retiring Town of Herndon Mayor, Lisa Merkel, for her years of service.

Since 2010, first as Vice-Mayor and then as Mayor, Lisa has been a passionate, approachable, effective, and energetic leader, working tirelessly on behalf of Herndon’s residents. In 2018, she ran unopposed. That is a telling example of how the Town’s residents view her as their Mayor.

There have been so many accomplishments during her tenure. Three that are particularly worth mentioning, are the rezoning of the Herndon Metro for transit-oriented development; implementing a downtown master plan, and entering into an agreement with Comstock Partners to redevelop Herndon’s downtown plan with construction to begin this year.

Throughout it all, she has maintained Herndon’s small-town charm and feel. Lisa once said that she “wanted to re-establish a sense of pride for everyone living in Herndon”. She did that in spades.

Town residents will miss you. I will miss you. It is a consolation that you and your family are staying in Herndon and I know you will stay involved in Town activities.
Thank you for your service and dedication, Lisa.

10/07/2020

To help fill the food pantries of area nonprofits, Stuff the Bus held food drives on two Saturdays in September. On both days, buses were parked at 21 locations throughout the county, including many Board of Supervisors’ offices, Fairfax County Public Schools and the Fairfax County Government Center.
On Saturdays, these are less-frequented locations which allowed donors to comply with social distancing guidelines.

During the two drives, the Fairfax County community generously donated 27.6 tons of food to 10 area nonprofits. In addition to donating food, community members also showed their support by volunteering at Stuff the Bus donation sites.

Members of student government, Boy Scout troops and individual volunteers masked up to help carry, stack and organize donations. “For me, Stuff the Bus always serves as a reminder of the goodness and generosity of the people of Fairfax County. Even during difficult times, our residents can be counted on to step up and help their neighbors,” says NCS Director Chris Leonard.

The next Stuff the Bus food drives are tentatively scheduled to be held in January 2021.
If you wish to donate before then, you can donate virtually to area nonprofits by visiting Volunteer Fairfax’s Stuff the Bus Donation Page
