Thank you to each and everyone of you who come to see us. We are gearing up for the Drive through flu clinic coming up in October. We did not do a drive thru last year but we plan on doing it this year. It should be quicker and more convenient than in 2017. Remember, if you do not get a flu shot, drive through so we can count you in the exercise. October sounds far away but it is right around the corner. Also, we are gearing up for the school flu clinics this fall. Lots of things going on. Stay Tuned for updates. If your child is entering 7th grade, they will need vaccines. It used to be 6th grade but it is now 7th. Go ahead and make an appointment. Don't wait until the last minute. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Thank you to all who came to the Open House at Telfair County Health Department. A special thanks to the girls and Thomas Tip Faircloth for all of your hard work to make it a success. We are so thankful for our beautiful renovations.

Telfair County is open to serve the citizens of Telfair County. We have expanded our services. Please give us a call for all of your health care needs.

Letters went out this week and last week about kindergarten and 7th grade vaccines. If you received a letter from Department of Public Health, this means your child is either missing vaccines or Form 3300 vision hearing, dental and BMI form. These are REQUIRED for your child to remain in school. This is the law. Some other parents will receive a post card stating it is time for your child's immunizations. This means your child has started a specific series and should finish since they have started. Please call us for an appointment. We appreciate your business. Monies collected at Telfair County Health Department remain in Telfair County.

Strep throat is going around. Wash your hands, cover your cough and sneeze, please!!!!!!!

We want to serve you to the best of our ability. If you participated in the Drive thru Flu clinic in any way, please list some pros and cons. We plan to do this again next year and we want to be as efficient as possible. Constructive criticism helps us to become better. Thanks for your input.

School flu forms have been picked up. If you want your child to receive a flu shot at school, please get your forms in. We will be administering vaccines in the next week. We have to do a lot of behind the scenes preparation regarding insurance and billing. However, if your child does not have insurance, your child can get the vaccine for free at school. Call the health department at 8687404 if you do not have or have lost your child's form. Thanks

Don't forget the Drive through Flu clinic on October 12 at Faith Baptist Church from 10-2 pm. If you are a healthcare provider or a lay person, and would like to volunteer, we have to have a volunteer form signed. Please let me know if you are interested. We hope this will be a great community effort and Emergency Preparedness Drill. We hope to come together and pull this off as a "semi real" emergency situation. Even if you do not get a flu shot, please drive through so we can assess traffic control. As stated earlier, this is our first year and we are learning daily what we should or should not be doing. If you would like to fill out a consent form ahead of time, please contact the Telfair County Health Department at 229 868 7404. Thanks for your support!!!

The Telfair County Health Department is excited to announce the expansion of care for children and adults. Becky Greene and Jina Adams have recently completed the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at Georgia College and State University and are eager to assist in your health care needs. In 2009, Becky and Jina completed their MSN as Nurse Educators. These nurses continued their education in 2015 and obtained their NP Certificate in May, 2017. They have obtained certification through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and licensing through the Georgia Board of Nursing as Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. These ladies are Telfair County Natives who have worked with Public Health for many years (Becky 9 years and Jina 25 years). Their main goal is to offer healthcare to this community.
Services include employment/college physicals, asthma management, hypertension and diabetes management, minor emergencies, sutures, wound care and other common illnesses, such as sinus, upper respiratory and ear infections. The Health Department will continue to provide immunizations, Women’s Health services, Sexually Transmitted Disease and Pregnancy Prevention, WIC services, environmental health issues, Child Health exams, Tuberculosis Screening and treatment, and lab work.
The Health Department accepts cash and can bill United Healthcare, Cigna, Coventry, Medicaid, Amerigroup, Peachstate, Wellcare and Caresource. We hope to be able to add to our list of insurances billed in the near future.
Becky and Jina would like to thank their families and the community for the endless support during their endeavor to become Nurse Practitioners. They are excited about serving the people in Telfair and surrounding counties.

Telfair County Health Department will have a Drive Thru Flu Clinic on October 12, 2017 from 10am -2pm in the parking lot of Faith Baptist Church. This project is a two- fold mission. It will count as a drill for Emergency Preparedness as well as a service for Telfair County. For instance, in the event of an anthrax or small pox outbreak, folks would be able to drive through and obtain medication (free of charge). We chose the church because it will not interfere with any major highways, such as the schools. This is not a competition with other health care providers. This is a county wide drill and we would love your participation. Currently we have on board, McRae- Helena Fire, Police and EMA/EMS, Three Rivers Home Health Care, Chamber of Commerce, Telfair Sheriff’s Dept., Coca Cola and Southern Charm Personal Care Home.
This is not for McRae- Helena area only. We want everyone in the county involved. We need at least 50 participants (patients) to obtain flu vaccines. If you plan to get your flu vaccine at the drug store, doctors office or health department, come get it at Faith Baptist Church and help us out with this event.
Not only do we need participants, but we need volunteers such as nursing students, retired nurses, Allied health students, students participating in health occupations or other classes, clubs, organizations.
We will have a meeting to finalize plans on August 30th at 9am at the McRae-Helena Fire Department. Please call the Health Department at 229 868 7404 if you think you would like to volunteer to help.
If you are planning to receive a flu vaccine, the consent forms may be obtained at the Health Department or online at South Central Health District page. I will try to upload one on here TCHD page as well. Most major insurances are accepted. This is why you should get a form and have ready so the nurse can vaccinate and you never have to leave your car. This will also expediate the process. There will be a charge of $25.00 if you have no insurance.
We welcome cars, trucks, vans and multi passenger vehicles. Please no 18 wheelers. We want this to be mock reality event.
Questions and comments are appreciated. This is our first year and we are excited about this endeavor. Please share with all of your friends.
Children are not vaccinated this day. We plan to vaccinate at the schools as well.

Don't wait until the last minute to get back to school shots. Slots are filling up fast. If your child doesn't have adequate documentation regarding immunizations, they will not be able to stay in school. Get those shots .

Honduras Group. Do these words sound familiar?

Honduras Group. Do these words sound familiar?

β™ͺღβ™ͺ'Twas the night before Christmas & out on the ranch
The pond was froze over & so was the branch.
The snow was piled up belly-deep to a mule.
The kids were all home on vacation from school,
And happier young folks you never did see-
Just all sprawled around a-watchin' TV.
Then suddenly, some time around 8 o'clock,
There came a surprise that gave them a shock!
The power went off, the TV went dead!
When Grandpa came in from out in the shed
With an armload of wood, the house was all dark.
"Just what I expected," they heard him remark
"Them power line wires must be down from the snow.
Seems sorter like times on the ranch long ago."
"I'll hunt up some candles," said Mom. "With their light,
And the fireplace, I reckon we'll make out all right."
The teen-agers all seemed enveloped in gloom.
Then Grandpa came back from a trip to his room,
Uncased his old fiddle & started to play
That old Christmas song about bells on a sleigh.
Mom started to sing, & 1st thing they knew
Both Pop & the kids were all singing it, too.
They sang Christmas carols, they sang "Holy Night,"
Their eyes all a-shine in the ruddy firelight.
They played some charades Mom recalled from her youth,
And Pop read a passage from God's Book of Truth.
They stayed up till midnight-and, would you believe,
The youngsters agreed 'twas a fine Christmas Eve.
Grandpa rose early, some time before dawn;
And when the kids wakened, the power was on..
"The power company sure got the line repaired quick,"
Said Grandpa - & no one suspected his trick.
Last night, for the sake of some old-fashioned fun,
He had pulled the main switch - the old Son-of-a-Gun!
