NWS - Peachtree City - Brett Albright
5:34 AM
Morning everyone! This one got some media attention yesterday, and we would like to make sure you are all aware of the outlook. Conditions have been dry for several weeks, and this trend should continue into the last week of September. When combined with the warm temperatures this suggests the potential for a flash drought in parts of Georgia (see the graphic below). For now only Abnormally Dry conditions are noted in Georgia via the U.S. Drought Monitor, but some areas could be upgraded to D1 in the coming weeks if the trend of dry and warm weather lingers as forecast.

When you call 911, our priority is to gather the necessary information to assist you effectively. However, certain factors may impede our ability to obtain all relevant details. It greatly benefits both you and our team if we have some basic information about you prior to your call.

To facilitate this process, please consider printing and completing the attached form, which you can then fax or deliver in person. Additionally, we will have copies available in our lobby for you to stop by and fill out.

Thank you!

The Boston Butt Fundraiser was a HUGE SUCCESS!!!!. Special thanks to the Modern Woodmen for the hefty donation of $2500, Don McDuffie for doing the cooking, and Piggly Wiggly in McRae for the spices and great price on the Butts. And of course everyone who purchased butts and made donations.

This fundraiser was to help the Special Operations Radio Team (S.O.R.T ) with their build out of a mobile communications trailer.

S.O.R.T. is a group that brought radios, Southern Linc phones, and manpower to assist us during Hurricane Helene when all communications were down.

Special thanks to Billy Walker for his working on getting the Telfair Emergency Operations Center up and going on Amateure (HAM) HF radio. In times of communications outages as we experienced during and after Hurricane Helene, this capability would have been nice to have had. When all else fails - HAM radio can save the day.
Billy is also our volunteer weather warning coordinator for NOAA and keeps us informed on potential bad weather. Billy is also the District Emergency Coordinator for the South Central A.R.E.S (Amateur Radio Emergency Services) I am proud to call Billy my friend and am VERY appreciative of his volunteer services to Telfair EMA.
If anyone is interested in volunteering with the Telfair Emergency Management Agency, please give me a call. There is a job for everyone. Unfortunately we can only pay you with appreciation.

Thanks to Commissioners Dakkia Bradshaw and Carla Sirmans for recognizing Telfair EMA and nominating us for this award.

Thanks Telfair County Sheriff Sim Davidson and Chief Deputy Scott Hooks for a successful search operation yesterday.

A local citizen's vehicle was found abandoned yesterday in the middle of a dirt road. The Sheriff's Department took the situation VERY seriously as the person was unable to be located.

The Sheriff's Dept worked with Telfair Emergency Management at a level never before seen by me in my entire history as both a paid and volunteer member of the Telfair EMA.

Thankfully the person was found alive and well SEVERAL hours later.

THANK YOU TO THE SHERIFF'S DEPT. FOR THE GREAT INTERAGENYCY COOPERATION.
