It might be cloudy but its still a great day to visit the Media Farmers Market and continue their 17 year long Food Drive!

Our booth is between the Pause coffee truck and the Byrsa Olive Oil stand.

Happy National Intern Appreciation Day to all of the interns in the Food Bank World !!!

14 years ago Pastor Maridel Whitmore came to the Food Bank and asked if accommodations could be made to provide her confirmation students a service activity to fulfill their requirements. No one would have guessed that that simple request would evolve into a pathway that over 100 youth volunteers have come (and continue to come) through.

Not celebrating and acknowledging their accomplishments today would be a greatly missed opportunity. So attached is a "Family Photo" that dates back through the years of the interns that chose to join the Food Bank Family. They range from Maridel's original 2012 confirmation students Heidi and Alyssa (top left) down to 9 year old Julian (bottom right). (Apologies if anyone got missed)

Some interns were temporarily lent to us by other organizations (Philadelphia Phoenix - thanks for Joe) (Be The Joy Foundation - thanks for Nick) (Charity Crossing - thanks for Sid and Davin) (Jennifer O'Mara - thanks for Ethan) (The Friends of Ridley Creek State Park - thanks for the 5) and some in the pics came for special short-term projects.......but the vast majority chose to spend 1+ years volunteering and contributing to the Food Bank cause. That is something the Delco Food Bank community will always be grateful for!

Whether they are alumni interns and moved on (black background) or they are current interns (green background) and still active, each photo represents a story. In a world with so many causes and organizations to choose from, it is an honor and privilege to have each of them choose the Delco Food Bank to be a part of their story!

Our weekend routine was extra special this week when 3 alumni came to visit! It's also very fitting as this week is National Intern Appreciation Week (big post on that coming soon!)

The Class of 2026 Awards Video is currently being edited and should be ready for the annual college send-off-post in mid August.

Special Thanks to Matt, Ryan, AJ, Sophia, James, Finn, Teddy, Nick, Noah, and Chase for getting great footage from each school's Awards ceremony.

Congratulations to Edgmont Township AND to the Penncrest Lacrosse team for coming together and recognizing "the 2026 Penncrest High School Lions Boy's Lacrosse Team as 2026 PIAA District 1 Class 2A Champions and Class 2A State Runners-Up."

(Perhaps one of the sports fans could be kind enough to explain what that means to us non-sports experts in the comments - thanks in advance!)

It was a proud moment for the food bank community as so many featured in the event's group-photo have also made appearances at numerous Delco Food Bank events as well!

Congrats again and thanks for all that the Penncrest LAX community and the Edgmont Township Community does for the Delco Food Bank cause throughout the year!

Congratulations to recent-alumni intern Luke for being our 8th intern featured in Newtown Edgmont Magazine's Student of the Month edition!

It's been a fun time having you around and it's hard to believe you're moving on!

You're very talented (outlined in the article-link below) and you've always come through.

The Delco Food Bank Community is forever grateful! Good Luck at Clemson in the fall and you will always hold a special place in the Food Bank family!

As almost all of the 2026 awards plaques have been presented, it is now important to give a huge thanks to all of the community organizations and Food Bank representatives that came together to support their favorite award winners!

It is a yearly tradition to invite various individuals, including past alumni winners, donors, volunteers, and other community organizations to add a personal touch to graduating interns that have made an extra special impact or connection in their lives. It is truly amazing to see the Food Bank interns use the Food Bank community as a vessel to make connections so strong that the community wants to support them back!

Some wrote cards, some sent gifts, some "endorsed" awards plaques (photos attached), and some did all 3. However, regardless of which option they may have chosen, the fact they cared enough for the Food Bank graduates to make their graduation experience special, is something the Food Bank community will be forever grateful for!

Special Thanks to Santa-Aaron, Santa-Tommy T Teofilak, Rose Tree Fire Company, Music Teacher Mrs Jeanette McCann Verdeur, alumni interns/past award winners James & Nicolas Media Presbyterian Church, Ty Harvey, Thai Hong, Robbie, and all of the others who came together to make the 2026 awards season extra special for those students/interns in their lives!
