Hi everyone! Here is an open letter UCs are passing around. It is a letter to condemn the MTM project, a project the UC has invested to build a thirty meter telescope on Mauna Kea which is indigenous lands sacred to the Native Hawaiian population. It will be addressed to the UC Board of Regents tomorrow.
If you would like to support, please sign on to this letter with your ASUCM or club official positions. The link will be in our bio. Please share! ‼️‼️

👋🏼Last but not least, Meet the President!
“Hey everyone! My name is Jose Lopez, currently a third-year Political Science and Sociology major. I have been serving as UC Merced’s Legislative Director for the past two years and I developed Lobby Corps because I wanted to create a space for students to have the opportunity to lobby their representatives while learning about key issues affecting us students. As Legislative Director, I deal with a lot of advocacy efforts pertaining to not only our campus but all the UC campuses. I work with the Legislative Director’s from other UC campuses to advocate for undocumented, incarcerated, foster youth, LGBTQIA+, and students of color. We also advocate for issues about tuition, mental health, sexual assault, and other issues students across California are currently facing.” 💙

👋🏼Meet the Publicity Director!
“Hey everyone! I’m the woman behind all the beautiful posts you’re seeing on our social media pages. I’m Isabella Milligan, she/her/hers, a current second-year Psychology student. I joined Lobby Corps primarily to help spread awareness of bills in our state system involving the mental health resources of students in California. I wanted to do something relevant to my major but also something that would benefit myself and many other students like me. When I graduate, I plan to continue on to grad school to get a master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy. I hope everyone’s staying safe and taking care of themselves, especially mentally!” 💙

👋🏼Meet the Secretary!
“Hello! I’m Cassandra Espinoza-Martinez, my pronouns are she/her/hers, and I’m currently a second-year Political Science major with a History minor. I was introduced to Lobby Corps when I had the opportunity last year to attend UCSA’s annual Student Lobbying Conference, and alongside other UCM students we met with California Assembly Members and Senators to lobby for bills affecting college students regarding key issues such as tuition hikes, summer financial aid (which has since passed!), and the concerns about campus police. Since then, my passion to keep the UCs accountable for their actions has only grown, and their lack of support for especially low-income, first-generation, undocumented, and LGBTQ+ students of color always needs to be addressed. I hope to one day make my family proud of all the accomplishments I’ve done. I wish everyone the best during these times!” 💙

👋🏼Meet the Vice President!

“Hello Everyone! My name is Lisseth Lopez-Ponce, my pronouns are she/her/hers, and I’m currently a second year Political Science and Spanish major and I am looking to minor in Writing. I was introduced to Lobby Corps by Jose after being a proxy for him as the UCM Legislative Director. Having the opportunity to travel and advocate for UCM students' needs, I was excited to join the organization behind it all. Working with other UCM students to lobby for bills that affect college students such as tuition hikes, summer financial aid, and mental health I learned so much about the power of networking. I joined this organization because things that are dear to my heart is to keep the UC’s accountable for their actions in regards to promising support for the low-income, first-generation, undocumented, and LGBTQ+ students of color. When I graduate I want to go to law school and become an Intellectual Property Law Lawyer.” 💙
