President Donald Trump's administration is continuing its effort to force the Wisconsin Elections Commission to turn over unredacted Wisconsin voter data after being rebuked by a federal judge last month.

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a day commemorating the end of slavery in America.

The history of slavery is an abomination that we will never let go of — nor should we. It was a practice that built the foundation of our country’s class system and economy; and a torture that stripped away the very meaning of what it meant to be human.

The Black community is a remarkable cultural force that has dictated our country’s trajectory, and here in Wisconsin we are proud to celebrate that history and the achievements of our Black community.

Juneteenth is an incredibly important time to reflect on the horrible history and impact of slavery and celebrate the progress that has been made.

For over 160 years, Juneteenth has been recognized across the nation to mark the true end of slavery in the U.S.

This day is a celebration of freedom, a reckoning with one of the most shameful parts of our past, and a reflection on the work we still must do. Happy Juneteenth!
