On Saturday, April 25, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, I hope you will join D.J. Beauregard for Mayor members of the City council, volunteers, and neighbors from across our community for Methuen Cleanup Day.

This is a great opportunity to come together, take pride in our city, and make a real difference in our parks, trails, and neighborhoods. Small acts of service like this matter, and they help keep Methuen clean, welcoming, and strong.

Mayor Beauregard invites residents to participate in Methuen Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, in celebration of Earth Day.

Volunteers are needed and greatly appreciated to help clean up locations across the city. Participants can register at Methuen.gov/CleanupDay to sign up and select their preferred cleanup site.

Cleanup locations include:

-Riverbank Cleanup along the Merrimack – Riverside Park, 971 --Riverside Dr. (sponsored by MVPC)
-Tenney St. Playground
-Methuen Rail Trail, trailhead parking at Railroad St.
-Neil Playstead, 188 Lawrence St.
-Riverwalk Park, 51 Osgood St.
-Veterans Park, 123 Milk St.

Please wear appropriate footwear. Gloves and trash bags will be provided by Methuen DPW.

🚨 SNOW EMERGENCY DECLARED IN METHUEN 🚨

Mayor Beauregard has declared a Snow Emergency in the City of Methuen, effective Monday, February 23 at 12:00 am through Tuesday, February 24 at noon (12:00 pm), due to the incoming winter storm forecasted for the Merrimack Valley.

City Hall offices will be closed Monday, February 23.

❄️ WINTER PARKING BAN

Methuen’s NEW Winter Parking Ban rules are in full force. All vehicles must be removed from public ways for the full duration of any declared snow emergency.

Vehicles left on public ways during a snow emergency are subject to ticketing and towing.
Fines: $100 for the first violation, $200 for subsequent violations. Vehicles remain subject to towing.

🅿️ PUBLIC PARKING OPTIONS

Residents may park at:

Pelham Street Park and Ride
Neil Playstead (Lawrence Street)
Municipal lots on Lawrence, Hampshire, and Lowell Streets
Nicholson Stadium (Pleasant View Street)

Vehicles must be removed from these locations within four hours after the snow emergency ends. Exemptions apply for handicapped residents, public safety workers, medical providers, and customers of commercial establishments.

🥶 EXTREME COLD – PLACES TO STAY WARM

The City’s Police Headquarters at the Quinn Building, 90 Hampshire Street, is open 24/7 for residents who need a safe place out of the cold.

The City's Health and Human Services team conducts wellness checks on unhoused residents and offers services to connect individuals with resources during severe weather.

🗑️ TRASH & RECYCLING / TRANSFER STATION UPDATE

Due to the storm:

Trash and recycling collection will be delayed by one day for the week of February 22.
The Transfer Station will be closed Monday, February 23, and likely Tuesday, February 24.

Please stay home when possible, stay safe, and allow DPW crews the space they need to keep streets clear. Remember to check in on elderly neighbors and anyone who may need extra help during the storm.

This morning was one of those simple, good mornings. Took the kids out for breakfast while Caitlin caught up on some much-needed sleep after an overnight shift at the hospital. Nothing fancy, just time together, laughing, eating pancakes, playing Connect 4 and enjoying being present for a bit before the day really gets going.

We ended up back at FAZ Café , and it’s easy to see why people like this place. It’s comfortable, the food is great, and it feels like one of those spots where you can actually sit and talk without feeling rushed.

Earlier this week, we also held our first “Councilors - AT LARGE” coffee here. It was really good to meet residents in a normal, everyday setting and just hear what’s on people’s minds. Some of what we heard were simple fixes like potholes, signs, stuff that should be straightforward. Other things were more complicated and will take time, coordination, and follow-through. That’s just the reality of local government. But listening is the first step, and I’m glad people took the time to come out and talk with us.

If you’re looking for a solid local breakfast spot, FAZ Café at 301 Merrimack Street is worth checking out. Methuen’s lucky to have good local businesses like this.

ATTENTION! 🚨

🚨 A declared snow ❄️ emergency is in effect in from 8pm tonight, Friday, February 20, 2026, through 8am Saturday, February 21, 2026. Ticketing and towing will be in progress.

The new winter parking ban is in full force, and residents are required to remove their vehicles from all public ways in the city for the duration of the snow emergency or face a $100 fine plus the potential of their vehicle being towed.

Alternative parking options provided by the city include: Pelham Street Park and Ride; Neil Playstead Ballfields (Lawrence & East Street); Municipal Parking Lot on Lawrence Street; Municipal Parking Lots on Hampshire Street & Lowell Street (3 lots); Methuen High School Stadium and the Recreation Department Lot at Ditson Place (the former School Administration building).

Proud to help share this important resource for our local veterans. — I’m not organizing this event, just helping get the word out.

Clear Path for Veterans New England, in cooperation with the Methuen Police Department (supported by a grant through the Essex County Community Foundation), is launching the Veterans Mobile Empowerment Center to provide free essentials to veterans facing food insecurity or hardship.

Here’s a fun thing happening in our community!

Also reminds me to make sure my dog licenses are up to date…

Mayor Beauregard and City Clerk Anne Drouin have announced the launch of the 2nd annual “Top Dog” contest, inviting residents to showcase their beloved pets for a chance to be named Methuen’s “2026 Top Dog.”

Residents who license or relicense their dogs for 2026 are eligible to participate in the contest. The first-place winner will receive a free 2026 dog license, and their dog’s photo will be proudly displayed in the City Clerk’s Office and featured on the City’s website. Second- and third-place winners will also receive a free 2026 dog license, and their dogs will be showcased on the City’s website.

To enter, participants must submit a high-quality photo of their dog at the time they apply for their license. Photos must clearly feature only one dog. Licensing can be completed in person at the City Clerk’s Office, located at 41 Pleasant Street, or online at Methuen.gov/TopDog.

The contest will run through March 14, 2026. Winners will be selected and announced on Monday, March 17, 2026. Residents who own more than one dog may enter each dog separately.

Please note that a valid rabies certificate is required for all dog license applications.

Tomorrow Tuesday, February 17, 2026 we’re holding the first Methuen City Council Recreation Committee meeting at 5:00 PM in the Great Hall (3rd floor) at Methuen City Hall.

This is a working meeting focused on priorities, communication, and what our youth sports groups and residents need heading into the spring season.
