The bluff is glowing purple once again...
These phlox were planted by the Stabile family in the 1990s, adding a splash of color to the hillside overlooking Lake Michigamme.
Yet the flower itself is no newcomer to the Upper Peninsula. Native phlox has flourished across the Great Lakes region for centuries, brightening forests, shorelines, and open landscapes long before modern development reached the U.P.
Over the past three decades, the plantings at the lodge have steadily spread across the bluff, growing fuller and more vibrant with each passing year.
