We use all legal means to protect our rights without infringing on the rights of others. •ABATE of Florida, Inc. is incorporated under the laws of Florida as a motorcycle rights organization or "MRO". •ABATE of Florida, Inc. currently is the only political MRO in Florida representing the interests of it's members and the motorcycling public at large. •ABATE of Florida, Inc. is dedicated to securing and protecting the rights of all motorcyclists in the state. The ABATE of Florida, Inc. mission statement: We will lobby and educate the government and general public to promote motorcycling in a safe and positive image. The corporation has retained the services of a full time lobbyist. It is the duty of the lobbyist to coordinate with the Board of Directors on matters of legislative interest and to put forth these interests to the legislators in Tallahassee. The lobbyist works closely with the Legislative Trustee and the state Board of Directors to formulate favorable bills and pursue getting the bills enacted into law. The lobbyist is also responsible for finding a willing and suitable sponsor in the Florida House and Senate for the aforementioned bills. ABATE of Florida, Inc. has copyrighted a Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Program ("MSAP"). The program is designed to be presented in schools and other public forums to better educate students and the general public. ABATE of Florida findings show a greater need for public awareness due to the increased numbers of motorcycles on the streets and highways of Florida. We will endeavor to enlist the cooperation and participation of all organizations and individuals who share a similar interest in preserving our American tradition of freedom. The corporation through it's chapters enlists the talents of it's members to promote a positive public image and lobby at the local level by contacting their respective legislators. The corporation aligns itself with other organizations and individuals who are pursing the same rights and freedoms as guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States and the State of Florida. We will involve ourselves in fund raising to achieve our goals. The corporation raises money from memberships and fund raising events at both the state and chapter level. At the state level the main fund raising event is the campground during Bike Week in Daytona, FL. The chapters hold fund raising events throughout the year across the state and use these funds to help the state organization pursue it's goals at the local level.

Do Not Let Congress Balance the Budget on the Backs of Retirees

Background: TRICARE enrollment fees and other cost shares were recently changed. As a result, military retirees who entered the military after January 1, 2018, will generally be required to pay more for TRICARE benefits than current military retirees. Military retirees were exempt from most increases in recognition that they have kept their end of the bargain. Now, Congress would like to change the terms of its deal with military retirees by removing that exemption and significantly increasing TRICARE costs for current retirees. The VFW needs your help in defeating this harmful proposal which would require military retirees to pay more for their earned health care.

Take Action: Contact your Senators and Representative to demand that they reject any proposal that would result in TRICARE fee increases for current beneficiaries, and tell them that they must not balance the budget on the backs of military retirees.

On this day, we honor and thank our nation’s Vietnam veterans for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States. Many brave American soldiers fought tirelessly during this long and costly war. They trudged through hot, humid and mosquito-infested jungles to confront the growing Viet Cong threat and support our country’s anti-communist efforts. Tens of thousands of U.S. soldiers lost their lives during the conflict, and others came home to a nation deeply divided.
War is never a popular or easy endeavor, but this war was unlike any other our country had seen. It polarized the American people, led to social unrest, and returning veterans faced a shameful public backlash that made healing from their physical and psychological wounds even harder.
It pains me to know that many Vietnam veterans were greeted with such hostility for their service, after sacrificing so much for our country. Fortunately, in the years since, we've seen an American people largely committed to not repeating these errors of the past and welcoming our troops home irrespective of their support for the military mission. Our nation’s men and women in uniform are extraordinary examples of selflessness and courage. Today, let us pay tribute to them, their families, and all those who supported the United States during the Vietnam War. May God bless our Vietnam veterans and may God bless America.

Like everyone else, we are keeping a close watch on the projected path of Hurricane Irma. We do not know what the outage situation will be, but please keep in mind that we have a limited number of phone lines and the system can only handle so many calls at one time. After severe storms, we can have thousands of members without power, so in that case it is likely we already know your power is out. In addition, we have a way to report outages on our website, which may be more accessible during and after the storm. We encourage our members to have patience, be as prepared as possible and stay safe.
