Thank you to 2025 ESP of the Year Melissa Wilson, a registration administrative assistant in the Smyrna School District, and her incredible dog Rebel Chase for all your work over the last year representing Delaware’s paraprofessionals, custodians, secretaries, nutritional staff, IT staff, and transportation workers.

Following each monthly school board meeting, School Board Member Tim Higgins plans to host "Bagels with a Board Member," where the community is invited to stop by to discuss education news, issues, and concerns. This month's Bagels is set for Wednesday, November 19, starting at about 8:30 a.m. at Manhattan Bagel, located at 400 W. Main Street in Middletown. All are invited to stop by, but please note that board members do not receive a salary. If you order refreshments, you will be responsible for the bill.

The Appoquinimink School District Board of Education will hold a board workshop on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the Board Room of the Marion E. Proffitt Training Center. The State of Delaware’s “school choice” law provides students with an opportunity to move within and between districts to attend the public school of their choice when capacity is available. If you’re considering this option for your child, please join us on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, when ASD will hold a live and live-streamed meeting to review the procedure for applying. Applications for the 2026-2027 school year will be accepted from November 3, 2025, until January 14, 2026.

The Appoquinimink School District has adopted Amplify CKLA for K-5 ELA. Amplify CKLA is grounded in the science of reading, using phonics and research-based instruction with rich content. I believe this is great for our young learners, and I hope to see positive results that will help build the crucial foundation our kids need to succeed.
