A very special donation was made today to McFall Elementary. Ashley Bettig and her mother Cindy Brown, brought in a backpack covered with butterflies and filled with supplies for a student, along with a box filled with supplies for a classroom. The gift was made in remembrance of Ashley's daughter, Piper Lynne, who would have started kindergarten this year. Sadly, Piper died shortly after she was born at 22 weeks old. "We want to help some other child in honor of Piper," Ashely said. Both she and Piper's grandmother, have butterfly tattoos on their wrists the family chose as a symbol of Piper. Ashley said when she saw the butterfly backpack in the store she knew it was the perfect choice to honor and continue Piper's legacy. What an incredible TK community!

Save the world! TKHS physics students set out to save the world from a toxic spill in one of their first challenges of the year. A cup in the middle of a designated toxic zone ring was filled with toxic kernels. Using limited materials, students had to move an empty cup in to the ring, pick up the contaminated cup and empty its contents into the safe cup. Finally, they had to remove the safe cup from the ring without spilling a single kernel! And of course there was a time limit! No pressure! Great lesson to get them to think creatively, problem solve and communicate!

What better way to get re-acquainted with classmates than a team-building challenge? Middle School teacher Mrs. Skiba uses this challenge to help her students learn to communicate, work together and think outside the box. The goal - to build the tallest tower with limited supplies. Round one was no talking, round two was each person only using one hand and round three was open. Fantastic job by all!

The News 8 Football Frenzy Tailgate will be at TK for next week’s matchup with Wayland!! TKHS, United Way of Barry County and News 8 are hosting a food drive that will benefit the greater Barry County area! Check out the infographic and feel free to donate items listed below. Come early to home varsity football and soccer games and watch the big screen scoreboard. You'll catch glimpses of what some of our own TK High School digital media and art photography students accomplished in their media day hosted this summer where they interviewed and took photos of varsity team members. They are planning more media days for other teams as well. All students involved said it was a great experience. Teachers Derek Dean and Barb Maring helped coordinate the media day event.
