As part of our 2026 theme, art heals, we’re honored to share the stories of local organizations and the meaningful ways art supports healing in our community. Today, we’re spotlighting Little Forks Conservancy. ❤️

Conservation Outreach Coordinator Lily Kelsey shares, “The Little Forks Conservancy permanently protects and improves natural environments in mid-Michigan by leading and inspiring actions that conserve vital habitats and waterways for the benefit of our entire community. Since 1996, we’ve protected over 4,173 acres of land, 26 miles of waterways, and 10 miles of trails. We strive to create places in nature that inspire connections and communities, serve as a healing and educational space, and allow all ages and abilities access to nature - now and for future generations to come.”

Lily goes on to talk about the creative side of their work, “At Little Forks Conservancy, we understand that art and the environment can be intertwined. In our work, we want the community to recognize and utilize our protected natural areas as spaces where they can go to slow down and connect with nature. Sometimes this connection occurs through observation and making art inspired by what we are seeing in the natural world around us. We’ve hosted events in our “Nature Craft Club” series that include Collage Nights and Nature Journaling.”

Thank you to Little Forks Conservancy for preserving the natural beauty of our local ecosystems and providing opportunities for people to be grounded in nature through creativity!
