The Midland Police Department was honored to accept a $180,000 check from the 13th Annual Bustin’ for Badges Clay Shoot fundraiser! 🎯🚔
This year’s event raised a total of $720,000, with $180,000 benefitting four local law enforcement agencies across the Permian Basin.

Thank you to the incredible support from our community and partners across the Basin. These funds will help MPD invest in the tools and training that allow us to better serve and protect.

Police are searching for two suspects involved in an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in east Midland.
At approximately 9:36 p.m. on Wednesday (May 27, 2026), Midland Police officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Morgan Way in reference to a gunshot victim.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a 56-year-old man had sustained a single gunshot wound to his right lower-thigh area, possibly from a .22-caliber firearm,” MPD reported. “Officers located one .22-caliber casing and one .223-caliber casing at the scene.”
MPD reported that the victim stated he had been at the VFW — located at 1306 E. Taylor Ave. -- playing bingo and that he had won money. The man received a ride home, and after exiting the vehicle from the passenger side, he walked toward his front door.
It was then, he said, when two younger Black males approached him. One suspect was described as wearing a black hoodie and the other as wearing a gray hoodie.
The man “stated the suspects demanded the bag he was carrying that contained money,” MPD reported, and they “became angry when they did not obtain the money and fired two shots at him, striking him once in the right thigh area.”
The suspects then fled westbound on Morgan Way and entered a light-colored sedan or SUV before leaving the area.
The investigation continues.

Midland Police reported that a Midland man passed away Sunday (May 17, 2026) from injuries sustained in a crash on May 2, 2026.
At approximately 11:40 p.m. on May 2, 2026, MPD officers were dispatched to the area around Cotton Flat Road and the Interstate 20 south service road in reference to a crash with life-threatening injuries.
“A 2025 Nissan Versa was moving eastbound on the 2300 block of Sunglo (also known as the 2300 block of West County Road 110), disregarded a stop sign at Sunglo and the I-20 south service road, mounted the cement curb and went airborne over a retention pond, causing severe damage to the vehicle and serious bodily injury to both occupants of the vehicle,” MPD reported.
A front-seat passenger, identified as 32-year-old Chandler Trost, was one of two people transported to Midland Memorial Hospital. He passed away on May 17.
MPD reported that speed and alcohol were contributing factors to this crash, which is still under investigation.
