🗳️ Let’s Talk About the Propositions on the Primary Ballots

In Texas primary elections, the propositions (also called party platform questions) are different depending on whether you choose a Republican or Democratic ballot.

When you check in to vote, you’ll be asked which party’s primary you want to participate in. The propositions listed on your ballot will match that party.

These propositions are not laws being passed immediately — they are party policy questions that help shape what each political party supports moving forward.

Here’s a general overview of what’s included this year:

🔵 Democratic Ballot Propositions focus on topics like:
• Expanding Medicaid access
• Immigration policy and pathways to citizenship
• Reproductive rights
• Affordable housing and public school funding
• Online voter registration
• Redistricting reform
• Cannabis legalization
• Environmental protections
• Tax relief for working-class Texans

🔴 Republican Ballot Propositions focus on topics like:
• Property tax policy changes
• Local government tax approval requirements
• Healthcare restrictions related to vaccination status
• Public school curriculum requirements
• Gender and reproductive policies in schools
• Term limits for elected officials
• Immigration enforcement and public spending
• Legislative leadership rules
• Restrictions on Sharia law

📌 Remember:
These propositions reflect party priorities and direction. They do not directly change Texas law on their own.

🚨 Tomorrow is the LAST day to vote in the Texas Primaries! 🚨

🗳️ Tuesday, March 3
⏰ Polls are open 7 AM – 7 PM

Primary elections are how each party chooses their nominee for the general election in November. When you arrive, you’ll be asked whether you’re voting Republican or Democratic and placed in separate lines. That’s completely normal for primaries.

You’ll also be voting on local Midland offices, along with state and federal positions — so your vote directly impacts what happens right here at home.

✅ Bring a valid photo ID
📍 Check the voting locations in our post (or contact your local elections office if you’re outside Midland)

Common Ground is non-partisan. We don’t tell you who to vote for — we just want you informed and ready.

Make a plan. Bring a friend. Show up. 🗳️

Many people who don't vote say it's because they don't know enough about the candidates to make an informed decision. NO MORE EXCUSES‼️

LWV Texas is here to help! 💜💛 Visit LWVTexas.org to view and download our nonpartisan Voters Guide in multiple languages! Or you can visit VOTE411.org/lwvtx to use our online, interactive Voters Guide.

Our nonpartisan Voters Guide includes answers from candidates about the issues you care about most! You can read their answers, compare the candidates, and decide for yourself who you think is the best choice. LWV Texas sends our candidate questionnaire to every candidate on your ballot, and every answer is printed unedited, just as it was submitted.

✅ Fun fact: although you CAN'T bring your phone into the voting booth, you CAN bring one of our Voters Guides! Print it out and mark your choices so you'll know exactly who you wanted to vote for!

We've been doing this for over 💯 years! So download our nonpartisan Voters Guide, share it with a friend, and GO VOTE!!!

Early voting started today 🗳️

If you registered to vote by February 2, you’re eligible to participate in this election — so make a plan to get out and vote early. Early voting runs through February 27, and Election Day is March 3 for the Primary Elections.

In Texas, primary elections are where voters choose which candidates from each party will move forward to represent their party in the November general election. This is how the final candidates on the ballot are decided — your vote here helps shape what November looks like.

Make your voice heard. Vote early if you can. And don’t forget to share that you voted to remind others to do the same. 🇺🇸

Have you listened to this conversation yet?

In this episode of BAM BizTalk, Itzel Gonzalez of Common Ground joins Angel Garcia to talk about listening across differences, staying grounded during uncertainty, and why civic engagement starts with understanding, not division.

This episode offers perspective for anyone feeling overwhelmed by today’s world and looking for a more balanced way to engage.
