As summer winds down, the Miller Police Department, is ramping up it’s enforcement efforts as part of a national Labor Day awareness mobilization cracking down on impaired drivers. Hello I’m Chief Ted Huss. The Miller Police Department will be partnering with the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety to bring awareness to this reckless and preventable crime. Expect to see more saturation patrols, DUI checkpoints and increased messaging about the dangers of impaired driving. Please designate a sober driver or set up a ride share like an uber/lyft, or taxi. If you see an impaired driver call 911 and report it to your local law enforcement, you very well could be saving their life or the life of another. The message is simple: Drive Sober or get pulled over.

🚲 A Quick Safety Reminder from the Miller Police Department 🌙

As the days start getting shorter, we’ve noticed quite a few kids out around town in the evening wearing dark clothing and riding bicycles without lights or reflectors.

We absolutely want kids to be outside, riding bikes, visiting friends, and enjoying the last bit of summer — we just want to make sure drivers can see them.

Parents, please take a minute to check your child’s bike for reflectors and consider adding a front/rear light if they’re going to be riding near dusk or after dark. Bright or reflective clothing can also make a huge difference.

Drivers, please keep an extra eye out around neighborhoods, parks, and side streets. A kid on a bike can be surprisingly difficult to see until you’re very close.

A few small precautions can go a long way toward keeping everyone safe. Thanks for helping us look out for the kids in our community! 🚔🚲
